2026 Topps Chrome Update Series Baseball opened for pre-order on November 2 at $239.99 per Hobby Box and $449.99 per Jumbo Box, and every format sold out on topps.com. The product releases on December 9, 2026. Short version: presale hobby boxes are already selling on eBay for $360 to $400, about $120 to $160 over retail, and presale jumbos sold for about $700. Topps hasn't published a print run, and we haven't reviewed the odds sheet, so there is no hard rarity number here. The chase is the Rookie Debut Patch Autograph, a one-of-one card pairing a rookie's autograph with the patch from their first MLB game.

How much is 2026 Topps Chrome Update? Price by format

From the Topps pre-order pricing as reported by Baseball America, and Topps' own product pages:

  • Hobby Box: $239.99
  • Jumbo Box: $449.99
  • Mega Box: $69.99
  • Value Box: $39.99 (Topps is also expected to bring back a Fanatics blaster version, which Baseball America expects to cost a bit more)
  • First Day Issue Jumbo: sold out on Topps at $1,600 per box (it releases November 27), and Baseball America reports collectors paid as much as $2,000 in the Dutch auction.

What's in a 2026 Topps Chrome Update hobby box?

  • Hobby box: per the Topps product page, 20 packs per box, 4 cards per pack, with 1 autograph per box. Baseball America lists 24 packs, so we're going with Topps' own page.
  • Jumbo box: 12 packs of 11 cards, with about 2 autographs per box according to Baseball America and ML. That's down from 3 in recent years, which matters for how jumbo should price against hobby.
  • Release date: December 9, 2026.
  • Debut patches: 198 names on the Rookie Debut Patch Autograph checklist, according to Baseball America, including Cam Schlittler, Jacob Misiorowski, Konnor Griffin, Kevin McGonigle, JJ Wetherholt, Bryce Eldridge, Chase DeLauter and Roman Anthony.
  • Inserts: Alter Ego Super Heroes and Major League Minis return, and Topps lists a new retail-exclusive insert set called Glass Canvas.

Why collectors are paying attention

Chrome Update is the product with the Rookie Debut Patch Autographs, which have become the premier modern rookie card. ML, who runs sports cards in our Discord, says this year's rookie class looks strong, and the patches could draw more hype than last year's and compete with 2024. His own list of names to watch includes Murakami, Bazzana, Eldridge, DeLauter, Griffin and Roman Anthony.

His caution is that the whole market depends on the big patches staying hidden. In 2024, a few massive ones didn't come out early and boxes kept climbing. Last year a big rookie patch was pulled early, which took the air out of the market fast. A possible lockout is also a concern for wax, which ML flags.

Topps Chrome Update eBay sold prices: what it's selling for

Here's the eBay market from sold listings checked on November 5, 2026. These are presales, since boxes don't ship until December:

  • 2026 Hobby Box: the first seven sales (Nov 4 to 5) ran $360 to $400, with the middle sale around $375. One was a Best Offer at $380.
  • 2026 Jumbo Box: two presales sold on November 4 for $699.92 and $699.99.
  • 2025 Hobby Box, for comparison: recent sales ran about $235 to $243, close to last year's retail price. I left out one $367.99 Best Offer listing that looks mislabeled.
  • 2025 Jumbo Box: sales on November 2 ran $473.95 to $509.99.

ML's history on last year's product: 2025 hobby boxes preordered around $250, hit about $300 on release day, held $250 to $300 for a month, then slid into the $220s. 2024 went the other way, with $325 to $350 sales at release and $400 to $500 a month later once the Skenes patch hunt took off.

Is it worth it? The math

eBay takes 13.25% plus $0.40 on a trading card sale, charged on the sale price plus shipping and sales tax. For a hobby box, a $375 presale with free shipping costs about $50 in fees, leaving roughly $325. Against $239.99 plus sales tax (about $257 at 7%), that's about $68 per box before you pay to ship it. For a jumbo, a $700 sale leaves about $607 after fees, against about $481 with tax at $449.99, or about $125 per box. Shipping costs come on top. With a presale, you also have to deliver in December, so the profit isn't locked in until the box is in your hands.

Flip, hold or pass? Our take

ML's view is that hobby and jumbo should return similar margins, with jumbo at roughly double the cost, because jumbo lost an autograph. He thinks 2026 looks better than 2025 over time, but he is careful about retail formats, where there was almost no window to make money last year. His advice is to tread with caution on retail unless you already have buyers or plan to put it away.

How we'd think about it:

  1. If you got a hobby box at $239.99, selling near $360 or more is a strong return. But remember last year's hobby box opened near $300 on release day and then sat in the $250 to $300 range for a month.
  2. Holding is a bet on debut patches. In 2024, boxes ran to $400 to $500 within a month, but in 2025 they dipped back toward $220.
  3. Don't pay presale premiums to hold. At $375 you're buying well above last year's range, and the upside depends on a big patch staying hidden.

What to watch

  • The First Day Issue release on November 27. It's a read on how excited the market is.
  • Whether presales hold above $350 as release approaches.
  • Early patch pulls. A big debut patch showing up early can cool a product quickly.
  • Retail supply. Retail formats will be widely available, and ML expects it to be hard to make money there.
