2026 Topps Update Baseball: Hobby vs Jumbo Flip Math

· 4 min read · By the Friends & Family team

Topps Update Series hobby boxes were $119.99 and jumbo boxes $219.99 at release. Within days they were selling on eBay for about $174 and $340. Here's the math and how our sports card lead ML called it.

2026 Topps Update Series Baseball came out on October 14, 2026 at 12 p.m. ET. The hobby box was $119.99 and the jumbo box $219.99, and both formats sold out on topps.com. On eBay, hobby boxes have been selling for roughly $174 and jumbo boxes for roughly $340, so the flip is real, with a few caveats below.

What's in a 2026 Topps Update Series hobby and jumbo box

From Topps' official product pages:

  • Hobby Box: 12 cards per pack, 20 packs per box (240 cards), with 1 autograph or relic card per box. Retail price: $119.99 (per our sports card lead, since the page doesn't show a price in its text).
  • Jumbo Box: 40 cards per pack, 10 packs per box (400 cards), with 1 autograph and 1 relic card per box. Retail price: $219.99 (same source).
  • Cases: 12 boxes per hobby case and 6 per jumbo case, per ML.
  • Odds and checklist: Topps posts both on the product page.

Update Series is the last Topps flagship release of the year, so it carries the late-season rookies and traded players. This year's set is part of the Topps 75th anniversary. ML points to the All Kings and All Aces inserts, which have never been in this product before, and to the jumbo box having the better shot at the rare inserts (All Kings, All Aces and HFA).

Why collectors are paying attention

Demand was already there before launch. According to ML, big box dealers were pre-selling jumbo boxes at $200 to $400 and jumbo sales were coming in at the low $300s. He called this year's set a better product than 2025 Update, and noted that 2025 Update boxes never sold under that year's retail price on the secondary market. Other Topps baseball products have been bouncing back, and ML pointed to 2026 Topps Allen & Ginter as an example.

Retail vs. eBay: what it's selling for

Retail: $119.99 hobby, $219.99 jumbo. Here are eBay sold listings as of October 18, 2026, for exact 2026 Update Series boxes (single boxes, no cases or breaks):

  • Hobby Box: 13 sales between $160 and $249.99, with a middle price of about $174. Most sold October 17, and five were Best Offers. Two were still presales.
  • Jumbo Box: 9 sales between $300 and $379, with a middle price of about $340. Three were Best Offers and two were presales.
  • Comparable, 2025 Update Series hobby box: 25 sales over the past seven months, from $115 to $368, with a middle price of about $222. I didn't verify the 2025 retail price, so treat this as a market reference, not a profit comparison.

Now the fee math. eBay charges 13.25% plus $0.40 on a trading card sale, on the price plus shipping and sales tax. A hobby box that sells for $174 with free shipping leaves roughly $150, which is about $30 over $119.99 plus tax. A jumbo that sells for $340 leaves roughly $295, about $75 over $219.99 plus tax. Shipping a heavy box comes out of that, so the hobby margin is thin. Jumbo is the better flip per box.

Flip, hold or pass? Our take

ML runs sports cards in our Discord, and his read before release was that this was a good flip, with some dip risk. He expected prices to slide when release boxes get delivered, but he didn't see hobby boxes dropping much below $140 to $150, and he liked jumbo to hold around $280 to $300. Those were his estimates, not guarantees.

So far sales are running above his floor on both formats. The honest caveats:

  1. Early sales are early sales. Boxes sold on October 16 to 18 are mostly pre-delivery or just-delivered. Prices can slip when more sellers list.
  2. Jumbo has the edge. The extra relic and the better shot at All Kings and All Aces is why jumbo holds more value per dollar.
  3. Hobby is a thin margin. About $30 per box before shipping and tax isn't much if you buy at anything above retail.

What to watch

  • Delivery of release boxes. This is when ML expected the dip.
  • All Kings and All Aces pulls. Big hits drive the price of the box.
  • Restocks. Topps sold out on release, but retail restocks would cool the secondary price.

Every Topps drop gets a full breakdown in our sports card channel before it goes live: pricing, what's worth entering, what to skip, and the details you need on drop day. When ML says "pass," members save their money. When he says "enter up for all," they're ready at the drop.

And when it's time to sell, you don't have to rely on eBay. Our WTB and WTS channels are where big sellers, breakers and collectors in the community buy and sell with each other every day, and that's often the fastest way to move sealed boxes and cases.
