Marvel MTG Source Material Cards: Price & Chase List

· 4 min read · By the Friends & Family team

Marvel Super Heroes has 60 borderless source material cards, and most are cheap. A handful are not. Here are the prices, the odds and which ones are worth chasing.

Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes has 60 different source material cards: borderless reprints of classic Magic cards wearing Marvel comic art. A non-foil one shows up in about 1 in 24 Play Boosters, and every Collector Booster contains one, per Wizards of the Coast. Wizards says each card appears at the same rate.

The prices are anything but equal. On Oct 30, 2026, Roaming Throne was about $51 on TCGplayer's market price, while 19 of the 60 cards were under $2 and the median was about $3.73. The "Doom Variant" Roaming Throne also sold on eBay for about $40 to $46 in recent weeks.

What are source material cards?

Wizards describes them as borderless cards that combine Magic reprints with art from Marvel's history, by artists such as Jack Kirby and Alex Ross. They include versions of the legendary creatures from the Secret Lair Marvel Superdrop. They carry the Marvel Universe (MAR) set code on Scryfall.

The facts that matter for buying:

  • Count: 60 different cards. Three of them are different versions of Heroic Intervention.
  • Play Boosters: a non-foil source material card appears about 1 in 24 packs.
  • Collector Boosters: each pack has a non-foil or traditional foil source material card. Collector Boosters are $37.99 each per Wizards.
  • Rate: all 60 appear at the same rate.

Our math, not Wizards': at 1 in 24 packs split evenly across 60 cards, any one specific non-foil is roughly 1 in 1,440 Play Boosters. That is why the top cards are expensive and why opening packs to hit one is a bad plan.

How much are Marvel source material cards worth?

Prices from Scryfall (TCGplayer market, checked Oct 30, 2026), for the June 26 release cards:

Card Non-foil Foil
Roaming Throne (#99) $50.85 $70.35
Teferi's Protection (#51) $36.24 $40.34
Archangel of Thune (#41) $18.43 $21.69
Simulacrum Synthesizer (#61) $17.87 $19.97
Sword of Fire and Ice (#100) $16.92 $25.70
Wolverine, Best There Is (#97) $15.46 $25.92
No Mercy (#68) $11.41 $14.84
Heroic Intervention (three versions) $9.52 to $10.32 up to $14.77

Across all 60: 19 are under $2, 39 are under $5, and the cheapest we saw was $0.85 (Return to the Ranks). So the set's value sits in the top eight or so cards. The rest are bulk with nice art.

Source material cards are not the same product as the set's headline Mind Stone and its Textless Headliner, which is a separate chase.

What are they selling for on eBay?

We checked eBay sold listings for Roaming Throne on Oct 30, 2026:

  • Non-foil: sold around $39.99 to $46.00, with sales on Sep 16, Sep 20, Sep 26, Oct 1, Oct 26, Oct 27 and Oct 28.
  • Foil: one sale at $64.99 on Oct 29.

That is a small sample, not a trend. But non-foil eBay sales landing a few dollars under the Scryfall market figure is the normal gap between a list price and what buyers actually pay. Check sold listings, not asking prices, before you buy anything.

Fee math if you flip

eBay's Collectible Card Games rate is 13.25% of the total sale amount (up to $7,500), plus $0.40 per order over $10 ($0.30 at $10 or less), per eBay's selling fees page.

  • Roaming Throne at $45: fees about $6.36, leaving about $38.64 before shipping, sleeve and top loader, and what you paid.
  • A $5 card: fees about $0.96, leaving about $4.04. Shipping eats most of that.

That is the whole story for the cheap half of the set. Under about $10, single-card sales do not clear costs unless you sell them in lots.

Flip, hold or pass?

This is analysis, not a prediction.

  • Flip: only the top cards, and only if you can buy them below the eBay sold range. The margin on a $40 to $50 card is real. On a $10 card it is thin.
  • Hold: the Roaming Throne and Teferi's Protection are the ones collectors and Commander players will hunt. Holding assumes demand stays, and we have no price history to say whether these are rising or falling. The broader Marvel Super Heroes singles market has cooled since launch, so we would not assume they go up.
  • Pass: cracking packs for these. At roughly 1 in 1,440 for a specific card, you are buying a lottery ticket, not inventory.

Bulk-priced source material cards are fine to pull for your own decks. They are not a reselling play.
