Pitch Black Chase Cards: Mega Darkrai ex Price & Top 10

· 5 min read · By the Friends & Family team

Searches for Pitch Black chase cards jumped this week, and one card still runs the set: the Mega Darkrai ex Special Illustration Rare, about $156 raw. But it sold for up to $396 in August, so the price has slid hard. Here are the top 10 Pitch Black cards by price and whether any are worth buying now.

The top Pitch Black chase card is the Mega Darkrai ex Special Illustration Rare (116/084), at about $156 raw on PriceCharting on November 5, 2026. Searches for "pitch black chase cards" rose about 190% among Google Trends related queries for Pokémon set searches over the past 7 days (that's search interest, not sales). On eBay, raw copies sold for $135 to $169 in October, down from $217 to $285 in most of August and a $396 peak on August 10. Pokémon hasn't published pull odds for Pitch Black that we could find, so there's no official "how rare is it" number beyond the set list: six Special Illustration Rares among 84 main-set cards plus secret rares.

Pitch Black chase cards: top 10 most expensive cards

Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution—Pitch Black (ME05) released on July 17, 2026, per TCGplayer's set quick facts, and it's the TCG debut of Mega Darkrai, Mega Zeraora, Mega Chandelure and Mega Excadrill. These are PriceCharting's ungraded prices (built from eBay and other marketplace sales), checked November 5, 2026:

# Card Rarity Raw price
1 Mega Darkrai ex 116/084 Special Illustration Rare $156.07
2 Mega Darkrai ex #120 Mega Hyper Rare (gold) $131.88
3 Morpeko ex 117/084 Special Illustration Rare $58.36
4 Mega Zeraora ex 114/084 Special Illustration Rare $36.61
5 Mega Chandelure ex 115/084 Special Illustration Rare $32.44
6 Gwynn 119/084 Special Illustration Rare $25.26
7 Gladion's Final Battle 118/084 Special Illustration Rare $19.98
8 Misty's Vitality 111/084 Ultra Rare $10.57
9 Gwynn 109/084 Ultra Rare $7.42
10 Slowbro 90/084 Illustration Rare $7.24

Two things stand out. The set is top-heavy: the first two cards are worth more than the next eight put together, and nothing past the Morpeko ex is above $40. And the Mega Darkrai SIR is drawn by Akira Egawa, per the printed card, which is why the market treats it as the set's signature card. TCGplayer's own quick-facts page predicted it would be "the most popular and valuable card in Pitch Black" before release, and that held. (The #120 gold card's number comes from PriceCharting's list; check the card you're buying.)

How much is the Pitch Black Mega Darkrai ex worth? eBay sold prices

We checked eBay sold listings for "mega darkrai ex 116 84 pitch black" on November 5, 2026. Prices only count raw (ungraded) US sales here.

  • August (launch month): mostly $217 to $285, with a $396 auction on August 10.
  • September: mostly $175 to $280, with the low end at $123.50 for a scratched, off-center copy.
  • October: $134.99 to $169.00: $134.99 and $150.00 (Oct 13), $150.49 (Oct 14), $161.00 (Oct 23) and $169.00 (Oct 31). Many were best-offer sales.
  • Graded: a PSA 10 sold for $510.88 on November 1 (27 bids), and a TAG 10 listing marked sold at $700 on November 2 (a best-offer listing, so the final price may differ). PriceCharting's PSA 10 average is $545.94, about 3.5 times the raw price.

So the raw price has dropped by about 35 to 45% since launch month. That's normal for a chase card once the opening rush ends and more copies are pulled and listed, but it means anyone who bought in August is underwater.

Pitch Black sealed prices: is it cheaper to buy the single?

Pitch Black packs are about $6.18 each on PriceCharting ($6.69 sleeved), against the $26.94 booster bundle list price (about $4.49 a pack, six packs) from TCGplayer's quick facts. The Elite Trainer Box was listed at $49.99 list and $69.49 now, and the booster box is about $183.41.

We can't compute a real "cost to pull" without published odds. As a rough yardstick, buying the Mega Darkrai SIR single at $156 costs about as much as 35 packs at $4.49, which is almost six bundles of packs and a long way from a guaranteed hit. If you only want the card, buy the single. Opening packs makes sense for the rest of the pulls, not for chasing one card.

The fee math: what the Mega Darkrai ex nets on eBay

eBay's final value fee for Collectible Card Games is 13.25% (plus $0.40 per order over $10), counted on the total including shipping and tax. Say you sell one at $156 and the buyer pays $5 shipping ($161 total):

  • Fee: about $21.33 + $0.40 = $21.73
  • Your label: roughly $5 for a tracked, protected shipment (our estimate)
  • Net: about $134

So a card you buy for $150 loses money after fees. You'd need to buy at $120 or less to clear about $14 profit, and that's before grading. Check the current grading fee before sending a raw copy to PSA: the graded premium is large on paper, but a PSA 10 isn't guaranteed.

Is Pitch Black worth it?

Not at today's chase-card prices for flipping. The Mega Darkrai ex SIR is still the best card in the set, but raw copies have slid for three months, margins are thin after fees, and the set has now been out for almost four months. The upside case is a graded PSA 10, which sold above $500, but only if you can buy a copy likely to grade 10 at a raw price that still makes the math work.

Flip, hold or pass? Our take

This is analysis, not a promise.

  • Flip: only if you can buy the Mega Darkrai ex SIR at about $120 or less. At $150, fees eat the margin.
  • Hold: reasonable for a gem-mint copy if you already own one and don't need the cash. The price drop has slowed (October was a tighter $135 to $169 band than August or September), but nobody can say if it has bottomed.
  • Pass: at $200 or more raw, which is where August prices sat, or on any card below the top four, where margins are a few dollars.
