2026 Topps Chrome Football went up for pre-order on topps.com on October 19. It's the NFL's flagship Chrome release, and the retail boxes are the ones you can actually buy at list price. Short version: there's early demand, but on last year's numbers the margin on a flip is thin, so this is a quick-turn play at best, not a hold.
What's in 2026 Topps Chrome Football retail boxes
Topps lists three retail formats on its official page:
- Mega Box: $79.99. 6 packs per box, 7 cards per pack (42 cards), with exclusive X-Fractors.
- Value Box: $44.99. 7 packs per box, 4 cards per pack (28 cards), with Red, White & Blue Refractors.
- Hanger Box: 1 pack of 14 cards with Pulsar Parallels. It was already sold out on topps.com when we checked.
Topps has also said that Mega Boxes ordered from its site will ship without a factory seal, the same thing it did with Update Chrome Basketball. That matters if you're planning to resell them as "sealed."
Hobby and Jumbo boxes are sold separately, and the official page lists only the retail formats above. We're not covering hobby pricing here.
What collectors are chasing across the release, per Topps:
- Rookies: Fernando Mendoza, Jeremiyah Love, Carnell Tate, Jordyn Tyson and Caleb Downs, alongside stars like Josh Allen, CeeDee Lamb and Myles Garrett.
- Inserts and short prints: Helix, Ultra Violet, Radiating Rookies, Game Genies, Kaiju, Tecmo, plus new Glass Canvas, Madden 99 Club and Super Bowl at Night.
- Autographs: NFL Honors Gold Shield Autographs and rookie, veteran and legend signatures.

Why collectors are paying attention
Chrome is the biggest football product of the year for a lot of collectors, and it's new for 2026. The First Day Issue box went out of stock at $2,500 on topps.com, only slightly under last year's price, according to our staff. Their read is that there's real excitement for the first few weeks, but not the frenzy of last year's launch, when blasters traded above $70.
Our sports card lead ML also points out that a lot of breakers need retail because they can't get enough hobby and jumbo, which supports demand early. The catch is that Chrome has so many parallels now that singles got cheap across the board last year.
Retail vs. eBay: what it's selling for
Retail is $79.99 for the Mega and $44.99 for the Value Box on topps.com, before tax and shipping. ML's pre-launch estimates were about $70 and $40, so the official prices came in higher than he expected.
2026 Topps Chrome Football on eBay: we checked sold listings for both formats on October 21 and found no matching sales yet. Nothing has shipped, so there's no real market to read. We also didn't count active listings as sales.
Comparable, 2025 Topps Chrome Football (last year's version):
- Mega Box: four single-box sales on October 20 and 21 at about $67 to $85, with a typical price of roughly $80. Shipping was $6.40 to $8.95 on top. One sold at auction, and one was a Best Offer sale, which can close below the listed price. Sealed cases and multi-box lots were excluded.
- Value Box: one sale, a lot of two at $95 on Best Offer, so roughly $47.50 each. That's too thin to call a range.
The math. eBay takes 13.25% plus $0.40 per trading card order, charged on the item price plus shipping and sales tax. Take a Mega that sells for $80 with $7 shipping paid by the buyer: fees come to about $11.90, leaving roughly $75 before you pay to ship it. That's below the $79.99 retail price, and you'd also have paid tax. A Value Box at $47.50 with free shipping nets about $41 after fees, against $44.99 retail. At last year's prices neither format makes money, and shipping costs come on top.
Our WTS channel shows the same picture in general terms: sellers are still clearing leftover 2025 Chrome Football stock, so supply of last year's product is out there.
Flip, hold or pass? Our take
ML is buying retail, but with limited expectations. In his words, there's money to be made early, but he expects it to fizzle quickly. Our read:
- Only flip if you get a premium early. The $80 comp for last year's Mega is below this year's retail price. You need new-product hype to push 2026 Megas well above that.
- Don't count on holding. ML's view is that retail Chrome turned sour last year as singles got cheap, and without changes it looks like a "bleak hold" again. Missing hobby-only inserts like Tecmo and Kaiju in retail is part of that.
- Unsealed Megas are harder to sell. Some buyers will pay less for a box with no factory seal.
For ripping, $79.99 for 42 cards with an exclusive X-Fractor chase is a normal Chrome price. As a flip, it's a thin one. We'd only do it with buyers lined up or a quick sale at a premium.
What to watch
- First eBay sales once boxes ship. The ship date isn't on Topps' page. One checklist site lists November 13, but we couldn't confirm that, so treat it as unconfirmed.
- Where hobby and Jumbo land. If hobby is priced high and sells above that, retail gets pulled up with it.
- Top rookie pulls. Mendoza and Love rookie autos and X-Fractors will set how collectors value the boxes.

Every Topps drop gets a full breakdown in our sports card channel before it goes live: pricing, what's worth entering, what to skip, and the details you need on drop day. When ML says "pass," members save their money. When he says he's buying, they know what to expect.
And when it's time to sell, you don't have to rely on eBay. Our WTB and WTS channels are where big sellers, breakers and collectors in the community buy and sell with each other every day, and that's often the fastest way to move sealed boxes and cases.
