2026 Topps Chrome Star Wars went on sale on topps.com on September 30 at 1pm ET, and the Hobby Boxes and sealed cases sold out. Short version: this is one of the best flips of the fall. Presales on eBay were running about double retail. Prices dipped on release day, as they usually do, but they're still well above what the box cost. The play is to sell early, before every release-day order ships and the market softens.
What's in a 2026 Topps Chrome Star Wars Hobby Box
Here's what Topps lists for the Hobby Box:
- Price: $179.99 per box, or $1,439.99 for a sealed case of 8 boxes. Topps' pre-order price was $169.99, so it went up $10 for release day.
- Contents: 10 packs per box, 10 cards per pack
- Hits: 1 autograph per box, plus four numbered parallels per box and two sketch cards per case, per Topps' box guide
- Status: Hobby Boxes and cases are sold out on topps.com
What collectors will be chasing:
- Autographs from big Star Wars names. Topps' preview lists Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Pedro Pascal, Ewan McGregor and Daisy Ridley, plus Duo and Trio Autographs that put several cast members on one card.
- Star Wars Logofractor: a new parallel numbered to 77 that you'll only find in Hobby Boxes.
- New insert sets: The Mandalorian and Grogu, Andor Season 2 and Star Wars: Visions Season 3 cards, Stormtrooper Command die-cuts, Eras original art and The Galaxy's Cutest.
- One-of-ones: Printing Plate Book Cards and original sketch cards.
There's also a $29.99 Value Box (8 packs of 4 cards, with four Raywave Refractor parallels you'll only find in that box). It was still in stock on topps.com after the Hobby Boxes sold out.
Why collectors are paying attention
Topps Chrome Star Wars has become one of the strongest non-sports products Topps makes. Last year's 2025 Topps Chrome Star Wars Hobby Box cost $159.99 on topps.com and still sells for around $250 to $290 on eBay a year later. That's a product that aged well.
This year's box is also doing as well as or better than 2026 Star Wars Chrome Galaxy, the pricier sister release that came out earlier in September. Galaxy costs $259.99 on topps.com, and its Hobby Boxes have mostly sold for $320 to $395 on eBay over the past week. Before release, the regular Chrome Hobby Box was selling in that same range at a much lower retail price. ML says that's unusual and doesn't expect the gap to last forever.
Retail vs. eBay: what it's selling for
Retail is $179.99 per Hobby Box. Here's what eBay sold listings showed as of September 30, counting single sealed Hobby Boxes only (no lots, cases, Galaxy or National Convention boxes):
- Presales, September 17 to 29: 12 boxes sold between $325 and $389, with the middle of the pack around $370. None of the buyers had the box in hand yet.
- Release day, September 30: 16 more sales, from $300 to $388, with the middle around $320. That's a mix of presales and boxes already in hand. Several were Best Offer listings, which can close below the listed price.
- Value Box: about a dozen presale Value Boxes sold since mid-September, mostly between $36 and $60, with the middle around $45. That's thin volume on a box that's still in stock at retail.
In short, prices came down roughly $50 on release day, but they're still close to double retail.
Now the fees. eBay takes 13.25% plus $0.40 on a trading card sale, charged on the sale price plus shipping and sales tax. A Hobby Box that sells for $320 with free shipping loses roughly $45 to fees, leaving about $275. Compared with $179.99 plus tax, that's around $80 a box before you pay for shipping. At the $370 presale level it was closer to $120. On a Value Box, the same math leaves only a few dollars after fees, before shipping.
Flip, hold or pass? Our take
ML, who runs sports cards in our Discord, calls this a great flip and plans to sell as early as possible. Three reasons:
- The margin is real. Even after release-day prices came down, a $179.99 box is selling for more than $300.
- Last year's pattern. 2025 Chrome Star Wars sold for roughly $250 to $300 around release, dipped to just under $200 about a month later, then climbed back. ML expects another dip once release-day orders ship, and even if it comes faster this time, there should still be room to profit.
- Selling early beats guessing. It's possible this set ages like 2024 did, which now sells for even more. But nobody knows that yet, and a sure profit now beats hoping for a bigger one later.
If you have boxes coming, sell at least some of them early. If you're a collector who wants to rip, the $29.99 Value Box is still at retail and is a cheaper way to chase Raywave Refractors. As a flip, the Value Box math is thin.
What to watch
- The post-release dip. Watch sold prices over the next few weeks as orders ship. Last year the dip came about a month after release.
- Odds. Topps posted the odds on release day. Check how often the big autographs and sketch cards come up before you decide to hold.
- Big pulls. Early Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill or Pedro Pascal autos, and one-of-one sketch cards, can move the box price.
