2026 Topps Heritage Football went on sale on topps.com today, October 21, at 1pm ET. It's the throwback release built on the 1976 Topps football design, and early eBay sales are running well above retail. Short version: there's a real premium on hobby boxes right now, but ML's advice is to be careful, because plenty of people already bought in on pre-order and the market can only absorb so much paper football at once.
What's in 2026 Topps Heritage Football
Topps lists these formats on its official product page:
- Hobby Box: $139.99. 20 packs per box, 8 cards per pack (160 cards), with 1 autograph or relic card per box.
- Hobby Box Sealed Case: 12 boxes per case. It showed as sold out on topps.com when we checked.
- Value Box: $24.99. 8 packs per box, 8 cards per pack (64 cards), with Value-exclusive Sparkle Parallels.
- Mega Box: Topps lists a November 4 release but no price yet.
The set is a 400-card base set modeled on 1976 Topps football. What collectors will be chasing:
- Walter Payton Cut Signature: an authentic autograph card from the Hall of Fame running back.
- Base Card Chrome Autograph Variation: top rookies and veterans signing on a chrome version of the base card.
- Base Card Image Variations: alternate photo versions of top veterans and rookies.
- Locker Room Autograph Relics: autographs paired with memorabilia.
- New inserts: All-Pro Series (24 cards, inspired by the 1976 Wonder Bread football set) and The Expansion (the 28 teams of the league in 1976).

Why collectors are paying attention
Heritage is a collector-favorite line, and this one puts the 1976 design on today's rookies and stars. Topps has posted an odds sheet and a checklist for the release, which gives buyers more to go on than staff had when pre-orders opened. Pre-order demand was strong enough that ML said it "flew," and Topps raised the hobby price about $10 between pre-order and today's sale, according to our staff. One third-party listing shows a $129.99 pre-order price, which fits that, but we haven't confirmed it with Topps.
Retail vs. eBay: what it's selling for
Retail is $139.99 for a hobby box and $24.99 for a Value Box on topps.com, before tax and shipping.
Hobby Box on eBay. We checked sold listings on October 21. We found about 115 single-box sales since September 23, and almost all of them are presales, since nothing had shipped yet. Prices ran from $170 to about $250, with a typical price around $195. Roughly half were Best Offer sales, which can close below the listed price. Shipping was free on many and about $6 to $10 on others. Team breaks, cases and multi-box lots were excluded.
Value Box on eBay. About eight single-box sales since early October, also presales, at roughly $39 to $50, with a typical price in the $47 to $49 range, mostly with free shipping. The sample is small.
Comparable, 2026 Topps Flagship Football hobby box. Recent sold listings on October 20 and 21 were mostly $173 to $275, with many around $195 to $200. ML's point is that most Heritage hobby sales are in that same range, right at flagship hobby pricing, and he expects it to stay near the lower end of it.
The math. eBay charges 13.25% plus $0.40 per trading card order, on the item price plus shipping and sales tax. Take a hobby box that sells for $195 with free shipping: fees come to about $26, leaving roughly $169. Against $139.99 retail plus tax, that's about $29 before tax and before you pay to ship it. A Value Box that sells for $47 with free shipping leaves about $40 after fees, against $24.99 retail, so about $15 before tax and shipping. Those are presale prices, though, and shipping costs come on top.
Sellers in our WTS channel are already listing Heritage Football, which is a general sign that supply is showing up fast.
Flip, hold or pass? Our take
ML runs sports cards in our Discord, and his call is that the hobby box should hold at the low end of the current range over time, but that you should be careful about overdoing it, especially with release-day pricing. Three reasons:
- A lot of buyers are already in. Many people loaded up on singles during pre-order without buyers lined up, and ML expects early price drops on singles before they bounce back.
- The market can only buy so much paper football. This is a mass paper hobby product, and demand for it is limited.
- The Value Box margin is small. ML says it's cheap at $24.99, but he wouldn't buy without buyers lined up and expects "lunch money at best."
If you got a hobby box at $139.99, selling into the $190s is a real profit. If you're buying at today's resale prices, it's tight. For the Value Box, it's a pass unless you have a buyer.
What to watch
- Hobby prices once boxes ship. Presale prices are the high point for a lot of products. If they slip toward $170, the margin shrinks.
- The Mega Box on November 4. Topps hasn't published a price. We'll cover it once there is one.
- Payton Cut Signature pulls. Big early hits will drive how collectors value the product.
