Electric Ocarina of Time: $49.99, Resale Value?

· 3 min read · By the Friends & Family team

HORI's officially licensed Electric Ocarina of Time retails for $49.99 and releases November 5 alongside the Switch 2 remake. US preorders reportedly sold out fast, and eBay sold listings are running well above retail.

The Electric OCARINA OF TIME from HORI is a $49.99 officially licensed instrument built for the sound recognition feature in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Nintendo Switch 2. It is due November 5, 2026, the same day as the game. On eBay, sold listings show a middle price of about $113, more than double retail. The question is how much of that survives once units actually ship.

How much is the Electric Ocarina of Time?

  • US price: $49.99 (Nintendo Store preorders opened September 15)
  • Release date: November 5, 2026, shipping dates may vary
  • Maker: HORI, officially licensed by Nintendo
  • How it works: play a song and the Switch 2 picks up the sound and triggers the matching in-game action
  • Modes: Free Play (play notes yourself) and Auto-Play (12 in-game songs at the press of a button)
  • Extras: volume dial and a headphone jack, per HORI Europe. Reported to need three AA batteries, not included
  • Needs: the Switch 2 version of the game, sold separately

What is it selling for on eBay?

We checked eBay sold listings on October 29:

  • 60 sales, from about $83 to $258, middle price about $113
  • The mix includes US presales and Japan-market imports, so read the middle as a ballpark
  • Most sales are from the last week, and many are listed as presale

Reports say US preorders at the Nintendo Store sold out within hours of opening. Treat that as reported, and check the store for restocks.

Why this matters for resale

  • It's a Zelda 40th anniversary item. Nintendo has leaned into the anniversary, and our Zelda 40th Switch 2 write-up shows the demand around it.
  • Fast sellout, limited access. A cheap accessory that sells out on day one is a classic flip setup.
  • Cheap to ship. It is light and small, which helps the margin.
  • It is tied to the game. Every Switch 2 Zelda buyer who wants the full experience is a possible customer.

The case against

  • Restocks are possible. Nintendo has said it will replenish some Zelda 40th stock in other regions, and a restock at $49.99 would cap resale prices.
  • It's a novelty accessory. Once launch-week excitement fades, demand may drop. Features aren't a reason to pay triple retail forever.
  • Fees. At $113, eBay's roughly 13.6% plus $0.40 comes to about $16, leaving about $97 before shipping against about $54 cost with tax. That is around $40 profit if the price holds.
  • Presale risk. Many sold listings are presales. You must receive the item on time to fulfill them.
  • Compatibility. The accessory needs the Switch 2 remake's sound recognition to be worthwhile.

Flip, hold or pass? Our take

If you got a US preorder at $49.99: hold it through launch, then sell. Real sold prices after November 5 will show the true number.

If you didn't: pass at eBay prices. Paying $110 or more to flip a $50 item with possible restocks leaves little room.

What would change the call: a Nintendo Store restock (bearish), launch-week sold prices holding above $100 (bullish), and reviews of the sound recognition working well.
