GTA 6 Vinyl: Why the Liquid-Filled Limited Edition Is a Great Hold

· 4 min read · By the Friends & Family team

We called the Grand Theft Auto VI limited-edition vinyl in our Vinyl Kings channel the day it went up. It sold out within a week — and it's already listing on eBay for nearly double retail, two months before it even ships.

Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album got a limited-edition vinyl release, and it was exactly the kind of drop our Vinyl Kings channel exists for. Here's what it is, why we told members to grab it, and what it shows about why vinyl is one of the most reliable categories in reselling.

What the GTA 6 limited-edition vinyl is

The official GTA VI album store listed the limited-edition vinyl at $124.98 as a pre-order, shipping November 20, 2026. It includes:

  • 34 original tracks from the soundtrack.
  • Two transparent magenta discs filled with blue liquid — a true collector's pressing, not a standard color variant.
  • Exclusive new artwork and packaging designed around the look of Grand Theft Auto VI.

It's now listed as sold out.

Why we called it

We don't post every record that drops. Before we make a call, our team checks demand: what similar releases have sold for on eBay and Discogs, how quickly they sold, and how big and committed the fan base is.

This one ticked every box:

  • One of the biggest fan bases in entertainment. Grand Theft Auto is one of the best-selling game franchises of all time, and this is the official album for the new game.
  • Genuinely limited. A "limited edition" liquid-filled pressing isn't something the store can simply restock.
  • A collector format. Liquid-filled discs are a novelty that collectors actively chase, and they photograph well — which matters when buyers are scrolling listings.

So we posted it in Vinyl Kings and told members we were buying it ourselves as a hold.

Sold out in a week, reselling near 2x

The vinyl sold out within about a week. At the time of writing, our team is seeing it listed on eBay for nearly twice retail — before a single copy has shipped.

That's the pattern with the best vinyl calls: the market prices in scarcity early, and demand tends to keep climbing once the product is actually in collectors' hands and no longer available at retail.

Why vinyl reselling works

Vinyl isn't a fad. It's been growing for almost two decades.

  • In 2025, U.S. vinyl revenue passed $1 billion for the first time since 1983, growing 9.3% to about $1.04 billion on 46.8 million records sold, according to the RIAA.
  • That was vinyl's 19th consecutive year of growth.
  • Luminate's sales data tells the same story, counting 47.8 million vinyl LPs sold in the U.S. in 2025.

A growing market plus limited supply is exactly what a reseller wants. When a pressing sells out, the only place left to buy it is the secondary market.

Q4 is when vinyl sells

This is the part most people miss: vinyl demand spikes hard at the end of the year.

  • Records are a go-to gift, and the weeks before Christmas are regularly the biggest vinyl sales weeks of the year. Pre-Christmas weeks in 2021, 2022 and 2023 each topped 2 million vinyl records sold in the U.S., per Luminate — the week ending December 22, 2022 set the modern-era record at about 2.2 million.
  • For comparison, 47.8 million records across 2025 works out to roughly 920,000 in an average week. Holiday weeks can run at more than double that.
  • Q4 keeps growing, too: Luminate reported U.S. vinyl sales in Q4 2025 were up 13.1% on Q4 2024.

Buyer traffic on marketplaces like eBay and Amazon surges through Q4 as holiday shopping ramps up. And the GTA VI vinyl ships on November 20 — landing in sellers' hands right as that season kicks off.

Keeping the risk low

A lot of the vinyl we call comes from retailers that accept returns. That changes the math: if the market doesn't move the way we expect, members can often send it back instead of being stuck with it. Our write-ups call out when a drop is returnable.

Always check the store's return policy before you buy — pre-orders and limited editions are sometimes final sale — and only buy what you're comfortable holding.

How to spot the next one

What we look for in a vinyl flip, and what you can use yourself:

  1. A huge or obsessive fan base — games, film soundtracks and top-tier artists.
  2. A special pressing — liquid-filled, splatter, numbered, store-exclusive or signed.
  3. Real limits — "limited edition" with no sign of a repress.
  4. Timing — releases that ship into Q4 have the holidays working in their favor.
  5. Proof of demand — sold listings for comparable releases on eBay and Discogs.
