Pokémon ex★ Series Trademarks Filed: What We Know

· 3 min read · By the Friends & Family team

Four new trademarks were reportedly filed in Japan this week, and they appear to line up with the ex★ series Pokémon teased at Worlds. There is no release date, no product and no price yet, so here is what is confirmed and what is not.

Reports this week say Nintendo, Creatures and Game Freak filed trademarks in Japan for three new names and one product line, and they seem to match the ex★ series that Pokémon announced at the 2026 World Championships. Treat the filings as a clue, not an announcement. Nothing here is on sale, and nothing here has a price.

What Pokémon has officially confirmed

At the Worlds closing ceremony, The Pokémon Company revealed the ex★ Series for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, featuring the Legendary Pokémon Raikou, Entei and Suicune. According to The Pokémon Company's press release, it is "coming soon to the Pokémon TCG," and more details will be shared in the future. That is all it says. There is no set name, release date, card list or explanation of what the ★ means.

What is reported but unconfirmed

Reports on October 28 and 29 say four Japanese marks were filed under Class 28 (games, toys and playthings), the class that covers trading cards. They are, in Japanese:

  • マグマの鼓動, translated as "Magma Heartbeat" or "The Pulse of Magma"
  • イナズマの衝撃, translated as "Lightning Impact" or "The Impact of Lightning"
  • オーロラの波紋, translated as "Aurora Ripples" or "The Ripples of the Aurora"
  • バトルスタートデッキ, "Battle Start Deck"

English translations vary between reports, so don't treat any of them as official names. The reports guess that the first three are set names tied to Entei (magma), Raikou (lightning) and Suicune (aurora), and that the fourth could be a starter-style deck. That is a reasonable read, but it is a guess. We have not checked the filing records ourselves, and filing a trademark does not mean a product will ship, or ship under that name.

Why it matters to resellers

New Pokémon sets are what set the market for sealed product, and a Legendary trio is the kind of theme that gets attention. But with no date, no contents and no price, there is nothing to analyze. Anyone telling you what these will sell for is guessing.

Two cautions from how the hobby usually works:

  • Japanese set names and English release names don't always match, so don't buy anything labelled with a translated name.
  • Early listings for products that haven't been announced are a red flag. Wait for a retailer or official Pokémon page.

Flip, hold or pass?

This is analysis, not a promise. There is no product to flip yet. The useful move is to watch for the official announcement, then check the retailer's purchase limits and cancellation policy before you commit money.
