2026 Bowman Chrome Sapphire Hobby Box: Worth $599.99?

· 5 min read · By the Friends & Family team

Topps charged $599.99 for a 2026 Bowman Chrome Sapphire hobby box, and the first U.S. sales on eBay landed at $1,499. Here's what's in the box, what's left after eBay's cut and why the hard part was getting one.

2026 Bowman Chrome Baseball Sapphire Edition went on sale at Topps on October 7 at $599.99 a hobby box. You get 8 packs of 4 cards and at least 1 autograph per box. Short version: the first two U.S. eBay sales on October 7 were $1,499 each, so a box bought at retail leaves roughly a $650 profit after fees. The catch is that Topps sold it through an online draw and entries have closed, so most people reading this can only buy on the secondary market now.

What's in a 2026 Bowman Chrome Sapphire hobby box

From the official Topps product page and launch listing:

  • Price: $599.99 per Hobby Box on topps.com
  • Contents: 8 packs per box, 4 cards per pack (32 cards)
  • Hits: 1 autograph per box and 3 exclusive colored Sapphire parallels per box
  • Release date: October 7, 2026. Entries for the Topps online draw closed that day at 1pm ET. Our Discord write-up listed a 12pm ET start, so the exact opening time differs from the Topps entry page.
  • The set: a 200-card base set of veterans, rookies and prospects in Sapphire Chrome finish, plus Sapphire autographs and a base card image variation
  • Redemptions: the box notes that autographs may come as redemption cards with expiration dates

Topps has published the checklist and odds sheet for this release. We couldn't find an independent checklist write-up for the October release, so the card counts above come from Topps only. This is a different product from the prospects-only 2026 Bowman Sapphire that came out in June, which has a 150-card base set.

Why collectors are paying attention

Sapphire is the premium Chrome finish collectors chase every year, and this one goes beyond prospects, with veterans and rookies in the base set. It's also expensive to get: Topps sells it by online draw, which keeps most buyers out and keeps the secondary market tight.

ML, who runs sports cards in our Discord, flagged two things before the sale. First, the print run: he estimated about 1,250 cases of 10 this year, against about 1,000 for a typical Bowman Chrome Sapphire release. That's his estimate, not a Topps number, and he said it wouldn't change much. Second, last year's 2025 Bowman Chrome Sapphire already sold for $1,000+ a box, and the regular 2026 Bowman Chrome hobby box has been selling well, so he expected these to open at $1,000+ right away. The early sales are consistent with that.

Retail vs. eBay: what it's selling for

Retail is $599.99 per Hobby Box. Here's what eBay showed on the morning of October 8:

  • 2026 Bowman Chrome Sapphire Hobby Box, U.S. sellers: 2 sales on October 7, both at $1,499 plus $9.95 shipping. Both were listed as in hand rather than presale. Two sales is a thin sample, so treat $1,499 as a starting point rather than a settled price.
  • International sellers: two sales from UK sellers on October 7 and 8 came in around $1,320, one of them a presale. Those buyers also paid about $77 to $79 in estimated shipping plus import fees, so we left them out of the typical price.
  • Cases: the only case result is a 10-box lot with a wide price range, so we can't call it a clean case sale. There are no confirmed full-case prices yet.
  • 2025 Bowman Chrome Sapphire, for comparison: sales of $980 (August 19) and $1,199.99 (September 4, Best Offer accepted), both for single hobby boxes. The Discord post said the 2025 box was a $700 retail box at one point. We haven't confirmed that.

Here's the math. eBay takes 13.25% plus $0.40 per order on a trading card, charged on the sale price plus shipping and sales tax. Your cost is $599.99 plus tax (about $642 at 7%).

  • At $1,499 plus $9.95 shipping: about $214 in fees leaves roughly $1,295, or about $653 per box over your cost, before you pay to ship it.
  • At the 2025 level of about $1,200: about $172 in fees leaves roughly $1,038, around $396 per box over your cost, before shipping.

Shipping costs come on top. For a box this valuable, you'll want tracking and insurance.

Sellers in our WTB and WTS channels are already trading Sapphire product, and dealers there list Sapphire editions among the sealed boxes they're buying.

Flip, hold or pass? Our take

ML's read before the sale: this should open at $1,000+ a box, and the 2025 release gives us a floor to compare against. Here's how we'd think about it:

  1. If you got a box at $599.99, this was a flip. Even the lower 2025 prices leave several hundred dollars per box after fees, and the first sales are well above that.
  2. If you didn't, don't chase the first sales. Buying at $1,500 means you're betting on a price that has only two sales behind it. The 2025 box sold at $980 to $1,200, and early prices on a draw product often settle once boxes are in people's hands.
  3. Watch for redemptions. The box notes autographs may be redemption cards with expiration dates. If you plan to open, check this before you buy.

What to watch

  • More sales. Two U.S. sales isn't a market. When a dozen sales line up near $1,400 to $1,500, the price is real.
  • International demand. UK buyers are paying roughly $1,320 plus $77 or more in shipping, which means demand isn't only U.S.
  • Box breaks. The first hits and early autographs will show up in breaks fast and set the tone for singles and sealed prices.
  • The regular Bowman Chrome hobby box. It's trading around $475 to $550, and if that holds, collectors will keep paying up for the Sapphire version.

Every Topps drop gets a full breakdown in our sports card channel before it goes live: pricing, print run, what's worth buying and what to skip. For Bowman Chrome Sapphire, members had ML's take on the print run and where he expected prices to land the night before the sale.

And when it's time to sell, you don't have to rely on eBay. Our WTB and WTS channels are where big sellers, breakers and collectors in the community buy and sell with each other every day, and that's often the fastest way to move sealed boxes without giving up 13.25% in fees.
