2026 Topps Cosmic Chrome Baseball went up for pre-order on topps.com on October 5 at 12pm ET and sold out. The Hobby Box costs $489.99, and boxes are scheduled to start shipping ahead of the November 4, 2026 release date. Short version: presales are already selling around $950 on eBay, so there's still a gap. But at almost $500 a box you're paying a lot more for the same bet than last year, and early presale prices aren't a promise.
What's in a 2026 Topps Cosmic Chrome Baseball Hobby Box
From the topps.com listing, the official odds sheet and the checklist:
- Price: $489.99 per Hobby Box on topps.com (sold out on pre-order)
- Contents: 20 packs per box, 4 cards per pack (80 cards)
- Autographs: "look for autographs," so no guaranteed auto. Cosmic Chrome Autographs fall about 1 in 136 hobby packs.
- Release date: November 4, 2026
- The set: a 200-card base set of veterans, rookies and legends, with refractor parallels themed around galaxies and planets
What collectors will be chasing:
- Planetary Pursuit: the brand's signature insert, with each planet rarer than the last, from the Sun (about 1 in 120 packs) out to Pluto (about 1 in 28,000).
- Mars Attacks MLB: a new 10-card crossover with Topps' sci-fi brand, about 1 in 1,513 packs.
- Cosmic Dust: a new insert making its MLB debut.
- Rookies: the checklist includes Roman Anthony, Konnor Griffin, Kevin McGonigle, Munetaka Murakami, JJ Wetherholt and Jac Caglianone, plus stars like Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge and Paul Skenes.
- SuperFractors and Constellation variations at the top of the parallel ladder.
Topps' odds sheet also lists a Lunar box with its own Lunar Eclipse refractors, but the topps.com pre-order was for the Hobby Box only. There's no Lunar price yet.
Why collectors are paying attention
Cosmic Chrome has aged better than almost any modern baseball product. Sealed hobby boxes from earlier years trade far above what they cost at release:
- 2025 Cosmic Chrome Baseball was $329.99 on pre-order and $349.99 on release day. It now sells for around $950 a box on eBay.
- 2024 boxes have sold for $1,300 to $1,450 in the last few weeks.
ML, who runs sports cards in our Discord, called this "going to be a great buy" the night before, as long as Topps didn't do something extreme with pricing. He also pointed out that 2025 didn't start at $950: it had early sales not far over $400 before climbing. His read on supply, which Topps hasn't confirmed, is that the print run is only up slightly from last year.
Then Topps announced $489.99. That's $160 more than last year's pre-order price.
Retail vs. eBay: what it's selling for
Retail is $489.99 per Hobby Box. Here's the eBay market from sold listings checked on October 5, a few hours after the pre-order sold out:
- 2026 Hobby Box presales: 9 sales on day one, from $699.99 to $1,049.99. Most landed between $950 and $1,050, with the middle sale at $950. Shipping ran $0 to about $14. Two were Best Offer sales, which can close below the listed price. All of these are presales: nobody has a box until November.
- Active presale listings start around $935.
- 2025 Hobby Box, for comparison: 11 sales from mid-September to October 3 ran $832 to $1,000, with the middle around $955 (one $1,400 sale left out as an outlier).
So 2026 presales are already priced like a box that's been on the market for a year. Here's what a typical sale leaves you. eBay takes 13.25% plus $0.40 on a trading card sale, and the fee is charged on the sale price plus shipping and sales tax. A $950 box with about $6 of shipping costs roughly $127 in fees (a bit more once tax is added), leaving about $829. Against $489.99 plus your sales tax (about $524 at 7%), that's around $300 per box before you pay to ship it. Shipping a single hobby box safely isn't free, so plan for that on top.
That's a good flip on paper. But last year the same math worked on a $330 box, and early 2025 sales dipped toward $400. If 2026 opens anywhere near that, a $490 box has much less room.
Flip, hold or pass? Our take
ML's call after the price came out: Cosmic is still the best release of the day, but this is a lot more per box than we've seen, and Topps is taking away much of the easy margin. Here's how we'd think about it if you got in:
- Selling the presale locks in today's gap. Around $300 a box after fees beats most hobby flips. The catch is that you're on the hook to ship in November, and presale prices often soften when release-day orders arrive.
- Holding is the case for Cosmic. This brand has aged well year after year, and 2024 boxes now sell for $1,300 or more. If you can wait, you're betting on the rookie class, not on the first month.
- Don't chase at $950 to hold. Buying someone else's presale at the top of the market leaves the upside to them.
If you missed the topps.com pre-order, there's no rush to buy presales at $950. Watch where boxes settle after November 4.
What to watch
- Release-day pricing. Topps sometimes raises the price between pre-order and release (it did on Chrome Star Wars). Another bump would push the market's floor up.
- The first weeks after November 4. That's when 2025 dipped. A dip here is a better entry point than today's presales.
- Lunar box pricing. If Topps releases Lunar boxes, they're a separate market to watch.
- Rookie pulls. Early Planetary Pursuit and autograph hits of the top rookies will set the tone for the product.

Every Topps drop gets a full breakdown in our sports card channel before it goes live: pricing, what's worth entering, what to skip, and the details you need on drop day. For Cosmic, members had ML's take the night before and his updated call as soon as Topps posted the price.
And when it's time to sell, you don't have to rely on eBay. Our WTB and WTS channels are where big sellers, breakers and collectors in the community buy and sell with each other every day, and that's often the fastest way to move sealed boxes and cases.
