2026 Topps Chrome Sapphire MLS: Worth $209.99?

· 5 min read · By the Friends & Family team

Topps Chrome Sapphire MLS launched on October 8 at $209.99 a hobby box, and last year's version now sells for around $400 on eBay. Our sports card lead calls it a solid buy that you should move fast. Here's the math, and the one catch from last year.

2026 Topps Chrome Sapphire Major League Soccer launched on October 8 at $209.99 per Hobby Box, with one autograph in every box. Short version: last year's Sapphire MLS boxes sell for about $400 on eBay now, roughly double this year's retail price, so there's room if you got one. The catch is that last year's boxes spent the summer closer to $270 to $320 before climbing, so the gap isn't guaranteed to hold.

What's in a 2026 Topps Chrome Sapphire MLS Hobby Box

From the Topps launch page, the official odds and checklist, and independent checklist coverage:

  • Price: $209.99 per Hobby Box. Checklist Insider reports that's up from $179.99 in 2025 and $169.99 in 2024.
  • Contents: 8 packs per box, 4 cards per pack (32 cards), 10 boxes per case.
  • Autographs: 1 Chrome Sapphire autograph per box.
  • Launch date: October 8, 2026.
  • The set: a 200-card base set that mirrors 2026 Topps Chrome MLS, on Sapphire Chrome stock with sapphire parallels.

What collectors will be chasing:

  • Infinite Sapphire: the case hit, about one per case according to Topps.
  • Sapphire parallels: Gold Sapphire, White, Orange, Black and Red Sapphire parallels, numbered down to a one-of-one Padparadscha Sapphire, according to Checklist Insider.
  • Big names: Lionel Messi, David Beckham, Antoine Griezmann and Robert Lewandowski are listed on Topps' page, with Son Heung-Min, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Thierry Henry and young players like Cavan Sullivan on the checklist.

Why collectors are paying attention

Sapphire is Topps' premium Chrome format, and the MLS version is a small, quick-selling product. ML, who runs sports cards in our Discord, pointed to the print run: the odds sheet implies about 500 cases of 10, roughly half a normal Sapphire print run. Topps hasn't published a print run, so treat that as his estimate.

The price history is the other draw. Last year's boxes dipped under $300 on eBay in the weeks after release, but they've since climbed back to around $400. ML's recollection is that cases sold early at over $4,500 last year. We haven't verified that, but it shows how much of the value sits in cases.

Retail vs. eBay: what it's selling for

Retail is $209.99 per Hobby Box. Here's the eBay market from sold listings checked on October 9:

  • 2026 Hobby Box: 1 sale so far, a $400 presale accepted on Best Offer on October 8 (plus $2.50 shipping). One sale doesn't make a market, and it's a presale, since boxes are only starting to ship.
  • 2025 Hobby Box, for comparison: 7 sales between September 13 and 21 ran $325 to $468, with the middle sale at $400. Shipping was free on most. I left out a $516.65 sale to a buyer abroad that carried import fees. Over the summer, auctions in August closed at $267 to $280.

Here's what a typical sale leaves you. eBay takes 13.25% plus $0.40 on a trading card sale, charged on the sale price plus shipping and sales tax. A $400 box with free shipping costs about $53 in fees (a bit more once tax is added), leaving roughly $347. Against $209.99 plus your sales tax (about $225 at 7%), that's around $120 per box before you pay to ship it. Shipping a box safely isn't free, so plan for that on top.

Flip, hold or pass? Our take

ML's call: this should be a solid buy, but one you should move as soon as you can. Last year showed why. Boxes opened near today's levels, then dropped to the $300 range for a couple of months once the hype faded, and only recently climbed back. His read is that Sapphire MLS is worth entering for most people, and his estimate is that only a minority of the product went to the entry system, so he expected it to be hard to win one.

How we'd think about it if you got one:

  1. Selling early is the safer play. If the presale market holds near $400, about $120 a box after fees and tax beats most hobby flips.
  2. Holding is a bet on a repeat of last year's climb. It paid off, but only after a stretch where boxes sat well below where they are now.
  3. Don't buy presales at a premium to hold. If you missed the launch, last year's boxes at around $400 show where the ceiling might be.

What to watch

  • Where the 2026 box settles. Presales are one sale deep. A few weeks of real sales will show whether $400 holds.
  • Case prices. Buyers in our WTB channel are already asking for cases, a sign that's where the demand is.
  • Last year's boxes. A drop in 2025 prices would hint at where 2026 goes.
  • Restocks. Topps sometimes sells leftover stock later, which would cap the premium.
