2026 Topps Midnight Football: Worth $539.99?

· 5 min read · By the Friends & Family team

Topps priced the 2026 Midnight Football hobby box at $539.99, and pre-sale boxes are already changing hands on eBay for $700 to $800. That's a big gap, but not all of it is profit. Here's what you actually keep.

2026 Topps Midnight Football went up for pre-order on October 12 at $539.99 per hobby box, with each box holding three Chrome autographs. Short version: if you got one at Topps' price, early eBay sales say you're sitting on a real premium. But those are pre-sales, the prices are still settling, and fees take a big bite. Our sports card lead thinks it's worth buying at the Topps price, and says to be realistic about where the market lands.

What's in a 2026 Topps Midnight Football hobby box

  • Price: $539.99 per hobby box. The sealed 8-box case was $4,319.99 on pre-order, which works out to the same price per box.
  • Contents: 1 pack per box, 7 cards per pack
  • Autographs: 3 Chrome autographs per box (some may be redemption cards with expiration dates, per the box)
  • Release date: Topps' official product page lists November 13. The staff post we based this on said November 6 for the First Day Issue version, so treat the date as not final until Topps confirms it.

What collectors will be chasing, according to Topps:

  • Returning autographs: Rookie Horizon Signatures, Horizon Signatures, Stroke of Midnight Autographs and Rookie Jersey Autographs.
  • New to football: Midnight Oil Marks, Moonlit Materials Signatures and Dark Matter Autographs.
  • Short prints: the returning Twilight, plus the all-new Night Night and Celestial Roots.
  • The rookie class: third-party checklists list autographs of 2026 rookies including Fernando Mendoza, Jeremiyah Love, Ty Simpson and Carnell Tate.

Why collectors are paying attention

Three autos in a seven-card pack is the pitch. Topps is also running a First Day Issue (FDI) version, a Dutch auction that started at $2,000 per box and had an exclusive autograph numbered to /10. According to ML, that one sold out at about $1,000 per box. The regular hobby box is the version most people can actually buy.

The comparison everyone is making is 2025-26 Topps Midnight Basketball. It had the same 7-card, 3-auto layout, and it's trading well above what Topps charged.

Retail vs. eBay: what it's selling for

Retail is $539.99 per hobby box. From eBay sold listings as of October 14:

  • Midnight Football hobby box (pre-sale): 5 sales between October 12 and 13, from $699.99 to $800.00, with a middle price of about $780. Three were Best Offer sales, which can close below the listed price. Shipping ranged from free to about $20. All five are pre-sales: the sellers don't have the boxes yet.
  • Comparable, 2025-26 Midnight Basketball hobby box: it was reported at $620 at Topps' price. Recent single-box eBay sales ran about $863 to $925 (October 2 and 12, and one from March), roughly 1.4x to 1.5x retail. Multi-box lots and listings that don't exactly match were left out.

Now the math. eBay takes 13.25% plus $0.40 per order, charged on the item price plus shipping and sales tax. On a $780 sale with free shipping, that's about $104 in fees, leaving roughly $676. Against $539.99 plus tax, that's around $136 before tax, and shipping costs come on top. Remember that eBay also charges its fee on the sales tax the buyer pays, so your real number is a bit lower. It's a good margin, but it's about half the headline gap.

The other risk is timing. If the product is delayed or lots of buyers flip the same week it ships, early prices can slide.

Flip, hold or pass? Our take

ML, who runs sports cards in our Discord, pegged the likely market at $650 to $750 for the hobby box before Topps announced a price, and said the $539.99 price came in better than he expected. His read:

  1. At $539.99, it's a buy if you can get it. The pre-sale market is above retail, and Midnight Basketball shows the line can hold a premium.
  2. Expect some drop from the early peak. He expects boxes to sell for a bit less once more sellers list, since a lower Topps price gives resellers room to undercut each other. Don't plan around the first week's best sale.
  3. Midnight isn't the most collectible set. In his view, football Midnight has less pull than some other Topps premium lines, and its price still depends heavily on how the rookie autographs hit.

We'd treat it as a solid flip at Topps' price, and a pass if you'd have to buy it at $750 or more from someone else.

What to watch

  • The confirmed release date. Topps' page says November 13. Delays or changes move the whole market.
  • Print run. No odds or case-hit numbers are out yet. Anything Topps reveals about how many boxes exist will matter a lot.
  • Case prices. Cases carry their own premium, but you need to be able to sell a case, which is a lot of cash tied up.
  • Rookie pulls. Early hits on Mendoza and Love autos will set the tone.

And when it's time to sell, you don't have to rely on eBay. Our WTB and WTS channels are where big sellers, breakers and collectors in the community buy and sell with each other every day, and that's often the fastest way to move sealed boxes and cases.
