· 5 min read · By the Friends & Family team

Wizards of the Coast just confirmed that select Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek products will arrive later than expected. Play Boosters are on track. Commander decks, Collector Boosters and bundles depend on where you live.

On October 16, 2026, Wizards of the Coast posted that, "due to production and shipping issues," select Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek products may arrive later than expected, and that the delays vary by region. The official Magic account pushed the same notice on X the same afternoon.

The headline for buyers: Play Boosters and Prerelease Packs are on track for the November 6 Prerelease events and the November 13 tabletop release. Several other products are not guaranteed to be on shelves by then.

What is delayed, by region

All of this is from Wizards' announcement.

North America

  • Commander decks are delayed and may arrive after the November 13 tabletop release.

Europe, the Middle East and Africa

  • Collector Boosters (English, French and German) may arrive after the tabletop release.
  • French and German Commander decks may arrive after Prerelease.
  • Collector's Edition Commander decks may arrive after Prerelease, with additional quantities after the tabletop release.
  • English Commander decks, Draft Night, Scene Boxes and Beam Me Up Bundles may arrive after the tabletop release.

Asia-Pacific

  • Collector Boosters, Omega Collector Boosters, Bundles, Beam Me Up Bundles and Draft Night may arrive after the tabletop release. Wizards notes single Collector Boosters are available at larger retailers.
  • In New Zealand, Scene Boxes may also arrive after the tabletop release.

Wizards calls the timelines "fluid," says its logistics teams are working to speed things up where they can, and says it will update the announcement page as news comes in. Its advice is to check with your local game store or retailer.

Official prices for the affected products

These are Wizards' published MSRPs from its Star Trek collecting guide, which we also covered in our Magic releases calendar.

Product MSRP
Play Booster $6.99
Collector Booster $37.99
Bundle $69.99
Beam Me Up Bundle $99.99
Draft Night $119.99
Scene Box $41.99
Commander Deck $74.99
Collector's Edition Commander Deck $159.99

Retailer listings can differ from MSRP, so treat any price above these as the store's own pricing, not Wizards'.

This is the second Star Trek supply problem

Earlier this autumn Wizards cancelled the Star Trek Beginner Box in all regions, also citing "delays in production, logistics, and shipping," and told people who preordered it to contact their retailer. Wizards said at the time that other Star Trek products were not affected. Today's notice is the first time it has named delays on the rest of the line.

Outlets covering today's news also point to earlier delays this year on other releases. One of them, MTG Rocks, reports that delayed Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart cards saw higher secondary-market prices. We haven't verified those prices ourselves, so treat that as a reported precedent rather than a rule.

Why it matters for resellers and holders

Late sealed product is not automatically a price spike. What it does is change who has product on launch day.

  • Scarcity at launch can lift sealed prices. If a store in your region has Collector Boosters or Commander decks and others do not, the first couple of weeks can price differently from the long run. That is a mechanism, not a prediction.
  • Delays can also fade. Wizards says logistics are working to speed up. If stock lands a few weeks late and in volume, any early premium can disappear.
  • Singles and sealed move differently. A delayed Commander deck affects deck buyers. The Collector Booster chase, including the seven hand-signed headliner cards at about 250 copies each per Wizards, depends on how many boosters get opened, not just how many are shipped.
  • Your region matters. North America's only named delay is Commander decks. Europe and Asia-Pacific have a longer list, so cross-region price gaps are possible, but check shipping costs and import rules before assuming any gap is a flip.

Check the retailer's terms before you order

We have not verified the cancellation, return or shipping-window policy of any specific retailer for Star Trek preorders, and Wizards' announcement does not state one. Before you pre-order a product on Wizards' delay list:

  1. Read the store's preorder cancellation policy. Some stores let you cancel before shipment, others do not.
  2. Look for a ship date, not just a release date. A store may be listing the release date while stock arrives later.
  3. Avoid paying up front where the terms are unclear. If you cannot cancel, you are holding the delay risk.

Nothing here is low-risk by default. It is only lower-risk when the retailer accepts returns, and that is something you have to confirm.

Flip, hold or pass

This is analysis, not a promise.

  • Flip: Only if you can get the product at or near MSRP from a store that clearly lets you cancel or return. Even then, wait to see what sold listings show after launch week. We would not pay a premium for sealed Commander decks on the assumption they will rise.
  • Hold: Reasonable for a small amount of Collector Boosters if you are happy to wait, since signed-card odds are the long-term draw. Size it so a flat or falling price does not hurt.
  • Pass: On anything where you cannot confirm the retailer's terms, or where the price is already well above the MSRP table.

If you would rather have a read on where the market is heading, we cover each of these as it develops in our Magic: The Gathering group, and you can browse every article in the Magic category.
