Vertigo Vinyl released an exclusive pressing of Pierce the Veil's Collide With the Sky on blue, white and black ripple vinyl, limited to 1,000 hand-numbered copies, for $36. It's sold out, and early eBay sales have already gone over $100. Short version: a cheap record with a hard cap and a loyal fan base, which is exactly the kind of small, safe flip vinyl is good for.

How we called it
On October 6, before the drop, Vinch posted it in our vinyl channel. He said it "looks too cool" and that he was going to try to get one himself, adding that while Collide With the Sky isn't the band's best album, Pierce the Veil records always do well.
That's the whole thesis in one line. You don't need the best album in a catalog. You need a band whose fans buy every variant, a pressing that's genuinely limited, and a price low enough that there's little downside.
Why Pierce the Veil records hold up
Collide With the Sky came out on July 17, 2012. It debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard 200, has been certified gold, and includes "King for a Day" featuring Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens, one of the defining songs of that era of post-hardcore. Fans who grew up on it are now adults collecting on vinyl, and a numbered, store-exclusive color variant is exactly what they chase.
The math
Early eBay sales our team has seen have topped $100. eBay takes 13.6% plus $0.40 on a vinyl sale, charged on the sale price plus shipping and sales tax:
- At $100: roughly $15 in fees leaves about $85. Against a $36 buy, that's around $49 profit before shipping and any tax you paid.
Early sales after a sellout are often the highest. If you're holding a copy, sold listings over the next few weeks will show where it settles, and Q4 holiday demand for records works in your favor. We broke down vinyl's holiday season in our GTA 6 vinyl article.
How to spot the next one
- A band with a loyal, variant-collecting fan base, especially scene and emo bands whose fans grew up and now buy vinyl.
- A hard cap, like 1,000 numbered copies, not just "limited."
- A store exclusive, so there's one place to buy it and no restock elsewhere.
- A low price. At $36, even a modest resale covers fees, and the worst case is owning a record you like.
