Corn Maze Superdrop Queue Pause: What to Do Now

· 5 min read · By the Friends & Family team

The Corn Maze Superdrop launched on October 12, then Secret Lair paused its queue over order processing and confirmation emails. It reopened that evening. Here's what's confirmed and what to check if you ordered.

The Corn Maze Superdrop went live at 9:00 AM PT on October 12. By the afternoon, the official Secret Lair account posted that it was "experiencing issues with order processing and confirmation emails" and was pausing the queue. Late that evening it said the site had reopened.

If you tried to buy, or you're thinking of buying a presale off eBay, here's what Wizards has said, what it hasn't, and how we'd handle it.

What Secret Lair confirmed

All times below are from the official posts on X:

  • 6:44 PM ET, October 12: Secret Lair said it was having issues with order processing and confirmation emails, asked buyers without an email to stand by, and said it was pausing the queue.
  • 8:19 PM ET, October 12: Secret Lair said the website was open again and Corn Maze Superdrop products were "still available." It added that confirmation emails may be delayed, and that if you were logged in when you ordered, the order should show in your account shortly.

The first post had about 104,000 views and the second about 51,000 when we read them on October 13. Wizards hasn't posted a cause that we could find, and we found no Wizards article on the Corn Maze sale explaining what went wrong. Treat any cause you read elsewhere as unconfirmed.

What the sale looked like

Per Wizards' announcement:

  • Eight drops, each $29.99 non-foil or $39.99 foil
  • Bundles: Pumpkin Spiced Non-Foil ($239.92), Full Moon Foil ($319.92) and A-Maize-Ing Everything ($539.99)
  • A foil Maze of Ith promo for every $199 spent, while supplies last
  • A pre-queue at 8:00 AM PT, and a warning that a cart doesn't hold anything until checkout is complete

For the card-by-card breakdown, see our guide to all eight drops.

What happened with stock (partly unconfirmed)

Reports conflict, so be careful:

  • TheGamer reported on October 13 that most bundles sold out within hours or minutes, but the KPop Demon Hunters bundle (non-foil in North America, both versions on the UK and EU sites) and the Marvel Zombies bundle (foil and non-foil, all regions) were still available when it checked. That is one outlet's report, and stock changes fast.
  • A reply under Secret Lair's reopening post claimed nearly everything sold out right away. That's one person's claim, not a confirmed fact.
  • When we loaded the Secret Lair store page, it didn't show usable stock or price status, so we can't confirm live availability ourselves. Check the product pages directly before you plan around any of this.

The precedent: the Zeta Set sale

Collectors immediately compared this to the Zeta Set sale. Wizards' own update said an external service disruption hit that launch, the queue was paused when the backend was strained, and thousands of people waited roughly an extra hour and a half. Confirmation emails took several days because of a backlog needing manual review, and some orders were canceled or failed, which freed up stock. Wizards offered a no-reason cancellation window and a 24-hour rerun with no timed queue. More in our Zeta Set re-release article.

The takeaway: a missing email doesn't prove you have no order, and it doesn't prove you do. The Corn Maze outage may or may not play out the same way. Wizards hasn't said.

If you ordered: what to check

  1. Log in to your Wizards account and look at your order history. Secret Lair said logged-in orders should appear there.
  2. Don't reorder just because the email is late. Duplicate orders are the expensive mistake, and Secret Lair's limits and final-sale rules still apply.
  3. Contact Secret Lair support if your order doesn't appear after a reasonable wait.
  4. Know the exit. Per Secret Lair's support page, preorders can be canceled with the "Cancel pre-order" button on the Manage Order page, but once an order is charged it's finalized, and some orders are charged at checkout. Orders can't be partly canceled, and a canceled order can't be reinstated. That page doesn't cover returns, and Secret Lair has said US purchases are final at the time of sale.

What eBay showed

We checked eBay sold listings for "secret lair corn maze superdrop" on October 13. Sellers were already selling presales, meaning orders that hadn't shipped. Examples we saw sold: a non-foil bundle at $376, foil bundles at $420 and $449, a "Full Moon" bundle at $650, and a foil Maze of Ith promo card at $49.69.

Read those carefully. They are a handful of sold listings, not a price trend, and the sellers hadn't received product yet. If you're the buyer, you're trusting that the seller's order actually went through, which is exactly what a delayed-confirmation launch makes harder to know. If you're the seller, listing a presale before your own confirmation arrives is risky.

Fee math

eBay's Collectible Card Games fee is 13.25% of the sale up to $7,500, plus $0.40 per order over $10 (eBay's fee page, checked October 13). To merely get back a $39.99 foil drop you'd need to sell for about $46.56, before tax, shipping and supplies. A bundle needs the same math on a bigger number.

Flip, hold or pass?

This is analysis, not a promise.

Flip: Only flip what you can see in your account. Sell a presale only after your order is confirmed, and price off completed sales rather than asking prices. If product is still available at retail, the spread on presales can shrink fast.

Hold: Drops that lean on one expensive card, or ones you'd want for your own binder, are easier to sit on. Most of the value in a drop usually comes from a few cards.

Pass: Skip presale purchases from sellers you can't verify, and skip stacking duplicate orders to "make sure." If Secret Lair really is still stocked on some bundles, paying a premium on eBay for the same product is hard to justify.
