Star Wars Galactic Racer Collector's Edition: Resale Guide

· 4 min read · By the Friends & Family team

We posted the Star Wars Galactic Racer Collector's Edition back in April, when it was a $159.99 Amazon pre-order nobody had played. Five months later, presales sell for about $235 on eBay and the game just landed an 88 on Metacritic, the best-reviewed Star Wars game in over 20 years.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer comes out October 6, and its $159.99 Collector's Edition is one of this fall's quieter wins. Our team posted it back in April, when it was a no-risk Amazon pre-order. Today it's unavailable on Amazon, presales on eBay mostly go for $213 to $250, and the reviews just came in far better than anyone expected. Short version: it's a modest flip at today's prices, but a low-risk one, and the reviews give it room to climb.

What's in the Galactic Racer Collector's Edition

The Collector's Edition ($159.99, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on disc) includes:

  • A landspeeder model
  • A physical art book
  • Two pilot patches
  • The Kestar banner
  • A custom slip cover and Deluxe Edition steel case, in a collector's edition box with sleeve
  • The digital Deluxe Edition: base game, digital art book, 3 exclusive repulsorcraft, a deluxe livery, 3 unique arcade events and a deluxe player banner

Both the PS5 and Xbox versions now show as "currently unavailable" on Amazon.

How we called it

April 30: Slumpd, who covers Pokémon and lowkey flips in our Discord, posted both Amazon listings with a simple call:

"No risk, lets order just in case, both systems collector's editions."

The logic: a big Star Wars license, a physical collector's box, and an Amazon pre-order you could cancel any time before it shipped. If it went nowhere, members could walk away.

October 1: five days before release, Slumpd posted an update:

"Cancel Deluxe. CE never dropped outside of Amazon. There aren't a ton of sales yet, but I think if the game reviews well it will pick up… You can always return them, some presales are $225+ so I'm going to take a risk free chance here."

Two things stand out. First, he called the Deluxe Edition a pass: cancel those pre-orders and keep the Collector's Edition. Second, his bet on the CE depended on the reviews.

The reviews are in, and they're excellent

The review embargo lifted this week:

  • Metacritic: 88 on PS5, from more than 50 critic reviews.
  • OpenCritic: 87 Top Critic Average, with 98% of critics recommending it ("Mighty" tier).
  • TheGamer reports it's the highest-rated Star Wars game in more than two decades, the best since Knights of the Old Republic in 2003, and the fifth best-reviewed Star Wars game ever.

It's developed by Fuse Games, a studio founded by veterans of Criterion (the team behind Burnout and Need for Speed), and published by Secret Mode with Lucasfilm Games. A great launch is exactly what Slumpd was waiting for.

What it's selling for on eBay

US Collector's Edition presales, from eBay sold listings:

  • Since mid-September: 12 sales from $212.99 to $249.95, with the middle of the pack around $237.
  • July and August: steady at $229.99 to $250.

So prices have held flat for months, roughly $75 over retail, all before anyone had seen a review.

The math

eBay takes 13.6% plus $0.40 on video games, charged on the sale price plus shipping and sales tax.

  • At $235: about $35 in fees leaves roughly $200. Against $159.99 plus tax (call it $171), that's around $30 profit before shipping.
  • At $250: about $37 in fees leaves roughly $213, around $42 profit before shipping.

At today's prices, it's a small flip once you pay to ship a big collector's box. The real case for holding it is what happens next.

Flip, hold or pass? Our take

Hold through launch. Here's why we like it, and what could go wrong:

  • The downside is small. You're buying at retail with Amazon's return policy behind you, so if prices don't move, you can send it back unopened instead of eating a loss.
  • The reviews give it upside. Prices held at $213 to $250 before a single review. A Metacritic 88 and word of mouth after October 6 are the best case for demand from collectors who skipped the pre-order.
  • Supply is the risk. If Amazon restocks the CE, or more stock turns up after launch, prices could drift back toward retail. Watch eBay sold listings during launch week.
  • Sell sealed. Collector's Edition buyers pay for an unopened box. Don't open it to play; pick up the standard edition if you want to race.
