2026 Topps Chrome Tennis Sapphire: Worth $299.99?

· 4 min read · By the Friends & Family team

Topps Chrome Tennis Sapphire went live on October 28 at $299.99 a box, double what last year's edition listed for. Our sports card lead thinks the upgrades justify it. The eBay numbers say it's tighter than it looks.

2026 Topps Chrome Tennis Sapphire Edition launched on Topps' EQL entry platform on October 28 at $299.99 per hobby box. That's a big jump from last year, and the eBay market for the 2025 box suggests the flip margin is thin at that price. Short version: the product looks better than last year's, cases look like the better play, and loose boxes are a smaller bet than the price tag implies.

What's in a 2026 Topps Chrome Tennis Sapphire hobby box

  • Price: $299.99 per hobby box (Topps' launch page)
  • Contents: 8 packs per box, 4 cards per pack
  • Hits: 1 Chrome autograph per box
  • The set: the 2026 Topps Chrome Tennis checklist on Sapphire Chrome stock, with colorful Sapphire parallels and Sapphire-treated autographs

Topps' official checklist is a downloadable PDF on the product page. Here's how ML, who runs sports cards in our Discord, read it against last year's release:

  • Gold parallel is back. 2025 had no Gold /50 parallel. 2026 does, and it's an easier, more recognizable parallel to chase.
  • A tighter base set. The base set is down from 300 cards to about 200, which cuts a lot of weaker names.
  • Better inserts. Infinite Sapphire and Hidden Gems join the set. ML calls Infinite Sapphire a strong seller.
  • A new design. He says the base cards look much better than last year's.
  • Autograph list: about 185 signers across two lists, versus 162 last year. ML isn't impressed by the names.

Why collectors are paying attention

Sapphire is Topps' premium Chrome format. The regular 2026 Topps Chrome Tennis hobby box (2 autographs per box) is selling on eBay for roughly $165 to $190 right now, so a Sapphire version with an auto per box has a lot to live up to.

The price is the issue. Last year's edition listed at about $150, according to ML. This year's is exactly double that. Topps is betting that a better checklist can carry it.

Retail vs. eBay: what it's selling for

Retail is $299.99 per hobby box. The 2026 Sapphire box has only just launched, and we found no eBay sales of the 2026 box yet as of October 29. So here's what last year's box is doing, from sold listings checked on October 29:

  • 2025 Chrome Tennis Sapphire hobby box: five recent sales, ranging from $179 to $295, with a typical (middle) price of about $210. Four of the five were Best Offer listings, which can close below the listed price. The $295 sale (October 27) was Buy It Now plus $6.40 shipping; the rest were free shipping and mostly sold between October 14 and 21.
  • Comparable, the regular 2026 Chrome Tennis hobby box: about $165 to $190 on recent single-box sales, with several around $165.

The math: eBay's trading card fee is 13.25% plus $0.40 per order, charged on the item price plus shipping and sales tax. On a $295 sale with $6.40 shipping, fees run about $40, leaving roughly $261 before you pay to ship the box. At the more typical $210, you keep around $182. Against $299.99 plus tax, buying at retail and selling at last year's prices loses money. To clear retail, the 2026 box would need to sell for roughly $346 or more before shipping costs, and shipping comes on top of that. Right now there's no sold data showing it will.

Flip, hold or pass? Our take

ML's read is that the price looks rough at first, but the improvements are significant enough that this should still do well:

  1. Cases are an enter for all. He thinks sealed cases are the stronger play.
  2. Loose boxes are riskier. He calls them "a little more sketchy," and the numbers back that up: last year's box mostly sold between $179 and $215.
  3. The autograph list is the weak spot. More signers than last year, but he's still not excited about the names.

His take is a case-first call from someone watching the market daily. Our read of the eBay data: if you're sitting on a loose box bought at $299.99, you're hoping for a spike. If you're buying to rip or collect, it's a premium product at a premium price.

What to watch

  • First sold listings for the 2026 box. Whether it clears roughly $346 decides if the retail flip works.
  • Autograph pulls. Early hits of the top names will move the market more than the checklist does.
  • Sibling releases. Other premium Chrome Sapphire launches this week will pull attention and money. See how we covered 2026 Topps Chrome Star Wars and the 2026 Topps Royalty Tennis box.

Every Topps drop gets a full breakdown in our sports card channel before it goes live: pricing, what's worth entering, what to skip, and the details you need on drop day. When ML says "pass," members save their money. When he says "enter up for all," they're ready at the drop.

And when it's time to sell, you don't have to rely on eBay. Our WTB and WTS channels are where big sellers, breakers and collectors in the community buy and sell with each other every day, and that's often the fastest way to move sealed boxes and cases.
