Delta Reign Build & Battle Box: Prerelease Oct 24

· 5 min read · By the Friends & Family team

Delta Reign doesn't launch until November 6, but Build & Battle Boxes go on sale on Saturday, October 24. The last set's boxes sold on eBay for roughly $31 to $45 each, so here's the math before you line up.

The Mega Evolution—Delta Reign Build & Battle Box goes on sale at select Play! Pokémon Stores starting October 24, 2026. That's two weeks before the full set releases on November 6. It's the first sealed Delta Reign product most people will be able to touch, so it's worth knowing what it's worth before you go.

What's in the Delta Reign Build & Battle Box

According to The Pokémon Company International, each box has:

  • Four Delta Reign booster packs
  • A 40-card, ready-to-play deck with key cards from current and earlier sets
  • One of four foil promo cards: Masquerain, Magmortar, Enamorus or Kommo-o

The box exists for Prerelease events, where players build and play 40-card decks. Pokémon's page notes that these games use four Prize cards instead of the usual six. Use the official Event Locator to find an event near you.

Pokémon doesn't list a price for the box on its page, and it hasn't said how long the Prerelease period runs. One retailer blog cites PokéBeach for an October 24 to November 1 window, but treat that as unconfirmed.

What Pitch Black Build & Battle Boxes sold for

The best precedent is the last main set, Mega Evolution—Pitch Black, which launched July 17. We checked eBay sold listings for "Pitch Black Build and Battle Box" on October 21.

  • Single sealed boxes sold between September 23 and October 19 for about $31 to $45. Most Buy It Now sales landed around $39, with one at $44.99 on October 10 and one at $40.27 on October 16.
  • Two auctions on October 4 closed at $31 and $32 after 11 and 12 bids.
  • Sealed 10-box displays sold for $275 to $340 between August 21 and October 20, which is roughly $27 to $34 per box.

Delta Reign boxes aren't on eBay as sold items yet. The only sold listing we found was a Canadian preorder for $43.38 on October 18, plus $17.78 shipping. That's one data point from a seller with no feedback history, so don't read much into it.

Pokémon doesn't publish a retail price for these boxes, so we can't give you a confirmed MSRP. A fan blog puts the previous Build & Battle Box at about $21.99 to $24.99. That is unconfirmed, so check the price at your local store.

The fee math

eBay's Collectible Card Games rate is 13.25% of the sale up to $7,500, plus $0.40 per order over $10, according to eBay's fee page we checked today. Here's a sample sale at the typical $39 Pitch Black price:

Amount
Sale price $39.00
Final value fee (13.25%) -$5.17
Per-order fee -$0.40
Left before shipping $33.43

Shipping on recent listings ran about $6, so you'd be netting roughly $27 per box. If you paid $25 at the store, that's a few dollars of profit per box. If your store charges more, it can vanish.

Why it matters to resellers

Prerelease boxes are small, cheap and easy to sell, but they're not a big-margin product. Three things decide whether they work:

  • Supply is tied to local events. Play! Pokémon Stores decide how many boxes they get and how they sell them, so availability will vary store to store.
  • Prices usually fall once the set is everywhere. After November 6, Delta Reign packs and Elite Trainer Boxes will be on shelves nationwide, and the early scarcity premium on a box meant for events fades. We saw the Pitch Black box settle into the $30s and $40s rather than stay elevated.
  • Cases are a different game. The 10-box displays held much more value per box than singles, but they cost real capital and you'd need to find one at a fair price first.

Also note that Delta Reign's bigger sealed products are the ones getting the early attention. Pokémon Center's first preorder wave for booster displays, Elite Trainer Boxes and bundles reportedly sold out almost immediately, according to ICv2. Return and cancellation rules

Prerelease boxes are sold by individual Play! Pokémon Stores, which are usually local game shops. Each store sets its own return policy, and we haven't verified any of them. Ask before you pay whether sealed product can be returned, and assume it can't until a store tells you otherwise. Don't count on a return as your safety net.

Flip, hold or pass?

This is analysis, not a promise.

  • Flip: only if your store sells at or near the likely retail range and you can sell on eBay for the high $30s or better. Your net is a few dollars a box after fees and shipping.
  • Hold: the box has four packs of a Mega Rayquaza set, so it isn't a bad sealed keepsake. We wouldn't count on it appreciating quickly, since the Pitch Black box has mostly stayed in the $30s and $40s since September.
  • Pass: if the store limits you to one box or marks it up. At that point, the Elite Trainer Box and booster products are better uses of your money, and the box's real value is in playing at the event.

If you're buying to play, it's a good deal: a ready-to-play deck, four packs and a foil promo for the price of a booster bundle.
