Rise of the Polygons, the 2026 Extra Life Secret Lair, showed up on October 30 with five cards in a 3D video game style, and searches for "Balefire Dragon MTG" and "Rise of the Polygons" jumped on Google over the last day. The cards are real, but Wizards has not published an official announcement, price or release date that we could find. The $39.99 non-foil / $49.99 foil price and a November 16 preorder are reported by a community wiki, not by Wizards, so treat both as unconfirmed.
The cheapest copies of the four non-token cards add up to about $45 today, roughly what the drop is reported to cost. That makes this a collector and Commander player drop, not an obvious flip.
What is in Rise of the Polygons?
From the card images, the drop has four cards and one token, all by artist Brendan Sullivan (collector numbers 2902 to 2906):
- Balefire Dragon (mythic, 6/6 flying, 5 mana): whenever it deals combat damage to a player, it deals that much damage to each creature that player controls.
- Sword of Truth and Justice (mythic equipment, 3 mana, equip 2): +2/+2 and protection from white and from blue, with a proliferate trigger.
- Young Pyromancer (rare, 1 mana, 2/1): makes a 1/1 red Elemental token whenever you cast an instant or sorcery.
- Big Score (rare instant, 3 mana): discard a card, draw two, create two Treasure tokens.
- 1/1 Elemental token.

The wiki also lists a bonus card, but we have not seen it confirmed.
How much is Rise of the Polygons?
Reported retail price: $39.99 non-foil and $49.99 foil, per the MTG community wiki (unconfirmed). That matches the 2024 Extra Life drop (Pixel Perfect, $39.99 non-foil and $49.99 foil) and the 2025 drop (Squishful Thinking, $39.99 non-foil). Past Extra Life drops have given 50% of the purchase price to the Extra Life charity fundraiser.
The same wiki says a limited number will also be sold at MagicCon Atlanta (November 13 to 15, 2026). We have no official confirmation of that either. Check the Secret Lair store before you plan around a date.
What are the cards worth?
Prices below are TCGplayer market prices as shown by Scryfall on October 31, 2026. These are other printings, since this drop's cards are not out yet:
| Card | Cheapest printing | Other printings |
|---|---|---|
| Balefire Dragon | $15.58 (Innistrad Remastered) | $17.34 to $19.25 (Innistrad, Ultimate Masters, Commander Masters) |
| Sword of Truth and Justice | $28.84 (Modern Horizons) | $29.65 and $34.37 (earlier Secret Lairs) |
| Young Pyromancer | $0.24 to $0.30 | most printings under $1 |
| Big Score | $0.44 (Final Fantasy Commander) | $0.45 to $1.62 in most printings |
That adds up to about $45, so the pitch is Balefire Dragon and the Sword with new art, plus the charity angle. MTG Rocks, which covered the reveal as a leak, reached a similar figure of about $44.
What did past Extra Life Secret Lairs sell for on eBay?
We checked eBay sold listings on October 31, 2026. These are previous drops, not this one:
- Extra Life 2025 (Squishful Thinking), sealed rainbow foil: about $39.99 to $60.55, with $39.99 on October 26, $46 on September 27 and $50 on September 23.
- Extra Life 2024 (Pixel Perfect), sealed rainbow foil: about $69 to $99.99 from mid-September to mid-October, with $85 on October 17. A non-foil sold at $79.99 on September 29.
The 2024 drop sold for well above its $49.99 foil price a year later, while the 2025 drop has traded from retail to about 50% above it. Both are precedent only, and neither tells you what Rise of the Polygons will do.
Fee math
We last verified eBay's Collectible Card Games rate at 13.25% plus $0.40 per order (see the current rate).
| Foil cost $49.99 | Sells at $60 | Sells at $85 |
|---|---|---|
| eBay fee | $8.35 | $11.66 |
| Left after cost and fee | $1.66 | $23.35 |
Both are before shipping and sales tax. At the reported price you need a sale near $58 just to cover cost and fees, and closer to $62 once postage is counted.
Return and shipping policy
You cannot return it to Wizards. Secret Lair's policy says once a customer has been debited, the order is final and they do not accept refund requests or returns, and preorders are debited shortly before they are ready to ship. Its shipping page says an order can take up to 3 weeks to ship after the estimated release date. We have not seen the shipping window for this drop.
Flip, hold or pass
This is analysis, not a promise or financial advice.
- Flip: Only if you get an order and a presale or post-ship price clears about $62 after fees. The 2024 drop did that a year later, the 2025 drop mostly has not.
- Hold: Reasonable if you want a Balefire Dragon and a Sword for Commander at close to the cost of the cards themselves, with half the money going to charity. This is the strongest reason to buy.
- Pass: On paying a premium before Wizards confirms the price, date and contents. A drop that is mostly worth its reprints is a low-margin flip.
