Is the Gears of War Prototype Lancer replica sold out?
Yes. The store page said the first batch had sold out, and the later orders shipped on a February estimate. Check the official shop for any restock before paying a reseller.
Why the Lancer replica matters for resale
- Instant sellout. The first batch went within hours of the August 20 launch.
- Collectors want full-size props. The Lancer is the signature weapon of a franchise that has sold over 40 million copies, per GamesHedge.
- Limited to North America. Fewer buyers could order it at retail.
- The Feb batch gap. Buyers who missed the first batch pay extra for one in hand now.
Risks and the case against
- Two batches means more supply is coming. The February batch could reduce prices when it arrives.
- Price has softened from the peak. September sales hit $599; recent ones are $450 to $525.
- It is big. A 36-inch box can cost $20 to $67 to ship, and damage claims are costly. See the reseller fees guide.
- Fees. eBay takes roughly 13% plus a small order fee.
- Unknown quantity. Microsoft has not said how many replicas exist.
The math
At $515 sold with $20 shipping paid by the seller: about $68 in fees and $20 to ship leaves roughly $427, or about $127 profit on $299.99, before tax and any shipping Microsoft charged. At $450 the profit falls to about $75.
Flip, hold or pass
This is analysis, not a promise.
- Flip: if you hold a first-batch unit and it ships. Sell near $500 before February units arrive.
- Hold: if you are a Gears collector. A display piece with a stand tends to keep value better than most game merchandise.
- Pass: if you would pay more than about $450 now for a February-batch order, since the margin will be thin once supply lands.
