The Hot Wheels RLC Exclusive 1985 Pontiac J2000 (SKU JJY71) costs $33.00 at Mattel Creations and was still listed as a pre-order when we checked on November 1, 2026. Completed US eBay sales early in the sale ran $50 to $75, but the newest ones, from October 22 to 30, mostly land between $32 and $45. That is close to retail. Mattel has not published a production number, so there is no official figure for how rare it is. Orders ship on or before November 13, 2026, and Red Line Club membership is required.

Hot Wheels RLC Pontiac J2000 price: how much is it?

  • Mattel Creations: $33.00, limit 2 per customer, "Members Only, New". The page still showed a pre-order button on November 1.
  • Membership: the Red Line Club 1-year digital membership is listed alongside at $9.99.
  • Ship date: on or before November 13, 2026, per Mattel.
  • Our team's pre-drop estimate: flagged October 6 at $33 retail and about $55 resale, as low risk because Mattel allows cancels and returns. See the releases page.

What you get

From Mattel's product page:

  • Bright yellow enamel with replica pinstripe graphics, ZAMAC body, 1:64 scale
  • Dual-tilt opening body showing a detailed engine and chassis
  • Real Riders Pro Street wheels (a debut)
  • Polished stainless steel front engine cradle and interior frame
  • Acrylic case inside a decorative slipcover

The car honors Rick Dobbertin's twin-turbo, twin-supercharged pro street J2000, named "Hot Rod of the Year" in 1986, per Mattel.

Hot Wheels RLC Pontiac J2000 eBay sold price

We checked completed US eBay sales on November 1, 2026 (search "Hot Wheels RLC 1985 Pontiac J2000 JJY71", sold and completed):

  • Latest sales (Oct 22 to 30): about $32 to $45, most near $35 to $40.
  • Early presale (Oct 3 to 10): $50 to $75, a few as high as $69.95.
  • In hand, mid-October: mostly $40 to $55, with a few at $58 to $60.
  • Our releases page recorded a $38 average across 10 sales as of October 26.

The drop from presale highs to near retail is the story here.

Is the Hot Wheels RLC Pontiac J2000 sold out?

No. On November 1 Mattel Creations still listed it as a pre-order at $33, so supply was not exhausted. Check the Mattel Creations page for current status.

Why this matters for resale

  • A real car with a following. The drag car has fans among builders and pro street collectors.
  • New Pro Street wheels. A debut feature collectors notice.
  • Pre-order still open. RLC cars tend to gain after they sell out, which has not happened yet.

Risks and the case against

  • Still available. Aftermarket prices are capped while Mattel keeps selling.
  • Thin margin. At $38 sold, fees and shipping take most of the gain. See our reseller fees guide.
  • Cars are arriving. Many sellers list "in hand" sealed cars, and supply is growing.
  • Ship date. Orders ship by November 13.

The math

At $38 sold with buyer-paid shipping: about $5 in fees and about $5 to ship leaves roughly $28 net, which is below the $33 you paid before tax. At $45 you net about $34, a profit of about $1. The flip only worked if you sold during the presale at $50 or more.

Flip, hold or pass

This is analysis, not a promise.

  • Flip: only if you can still sell above about $45. That is not where the latest sales are.
  • Hold: if you collect drag cars or RLC pieces, or want one for the Pro Street wheels. Keep the slipcover intact.
  • Pass: if you are buying purely to resell. A sellout would change that, so watch the Mattel page.
