Secret Lair Odds and Ends Commander Deck: Flip or Hold?

· 7 min read · By the Friends & Family team

Everyone who ordered the Odds and Ends Secret Lair deck in its 24-hour window gets one. That's great for players and tricky for flippers: first-wave copies are selling around $200 on eBay, while most buyers wait until July 2027.

Secret Lair's newest Commander deck, Odds and Ends, went on sale September 28 for $149.99, and Wizards promised that every order placed in the first 24 hours would be filled. That window closed September 29. Now the question for anyone holding an order is simple: sell, hold, or skip the next one?

Here's what Wizards confirmed, what the deck is worth on paper, what eBay buyers are actually paying, and how we'd think about it.

What Secret Lair released

From Wizards' official decklist announcement:

  • Price: $149.99
  • Order window: Monday, September 28, 2026, 9 a.m. PT, to Tuesday, September 29, 2026, 8:59 a.m. PT
  • Promise: every order placed in that window will be fulfilled (a print-to-demand run)
  • Contents: a 100-card Esper (white, blue, black) Commander deck led by Yennett, Cryptic Sovereign
  • 12 foil cards with new art by Ricardo Cavolo, including Yennett, Esper Sentinel, Sensei's Divining Top, Sol Ring, Swords to Plowshares and Void Winnower
  • 12 foil borderless basic lands (4 each of Plains, Island and Swamp) from The Oddlands
  • 76 non-foil reprints, 10 double-sided tokens, a display commander and a deck box

The official Secret Lair account's launch post on September 28 had about 138,000 views when we read it on October 1. The announcement teaser two days earlier passed 400,000 views.

Wizards also sold The Oddlands basic land drops the same day, at $29.99 non-foil and $39.99 foil according to Star City Games, with a deal that made every third one free.

The catch: two shipping waves

Print-to-demand doesn't mean everyone gets it at once. Wizards' announcement says a limited quantity shipped right away, and additional orders are expected to ship in July 2027 in North America (August 2027 in the EU and UK).

That first-wave stock didn't last. TheGamer updated its buying guide at 10:30 a.m. PT on launch day to say instant-ship stock had sold through in all regions. So most buyers are looking at roughly a nine-month wait.

That split matters more than anything else in this release. A first-wave order is a deck you'll have this month. A July 2027 order is a promise.

What the cards are worth on paper

ManaValue added up the deck on September 26 using TCGplayer market prices and got $360.28 in singles, about 2.4 times the $149.99 price. The top cards:

  • Esper Sentinel (foil): $76.45
  • Sensei's Divining Top (foil): $51.40
  • Void Winnower (foil): $27.72
  • Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth: $17.30
  • Toxrill, the Corrosive: $14.51

One important detail: ManaValue priced each card at the cheapest existing printing in the same finish, not the new Cavolo versions, which didn't have a market yet. That's a reasonable floor, but singles value isn't what a sealed deck sells for. Breaking a deck down takes time, and singles prices drop when tens of thousands of copies hit the market at once.

What eBay buyers are paying

We checked eBay sold listings on October 1. Between September 28 and October 1, we counted dozens of sales, almost all listed as "first wave" or "confirmed order" presales:

  • Most sold between $185 and $215
  • The cluster sat right around $200
  • A few launch-day sales hit $245 to $280, and the low end was $179.99

Prices drifted down as more listings appeared. By September 30 and October 1, most sales sat at $190 to $210. We didn't find any sales clearly marked as July 2027 orders.

Also, most of these are presales: the seller is selling a deck they haven't received yet. If you sell that way, you're on the hook if your order is late or canceled, and eBay buyers can open a case if it doesn't arrive.

The fee math at $200

eBay's final value fee for Collectible Card Games is 13.25% of the total sale (up to $7,500), plus $0.40 per order over $10.

  • Sell at $200: fees of about $26.90, leaving $173.10
  • Subtract the $149.99 price: about $23 left, before the sales tax you paid, shipping and supplies
  • Break-even on the sticker price alone is about $173.36

eBay calculates that fee on the total amount including shipping and tax the buyer pays, so your real margin depends on how you list it. A $200 sale on a first-wave deck is a thin flip, not a big one.

How past Secret Lair Commander decks held up

There's real precedent for these decks gaining value, but it's measured in singles, not sealed sales. The Pod Companion tracks the singles value of every Secret Lair Commander deck (TCGplayer data, updated September 30, 2026):

  • Heads I Win, Tails You Lose (Nov 2021, $99.99): $559.34
  • Angels: They're Just Like Us... (Aug 2023, $149.99): $680.24
  • From Cute to Brute (May 2023, $149.99): $391.85
  • Goblin Storm (May 2026, $149.99): $601.50
  • Hatsune Miku (Aug 2026, $149.99): $421.87

Every deck on that list now has singles worth more than 2.3 times its price. That doesn't promise the same for Odds and Ends, and a print-to-demand run usually means more copies than a limited drop. But it explains why so many collectors buy these and wait.

Secret Lair's cancel and return rules

From Secret Lair's support pages:

  • Cancel only before you're charged, using "Cancel pre-order" on the Manage Order page. Some orders are charged at checkout, and then there's no self-service cancel.
  • No partial cancels, and a canceled order can't be reinstated.
  • US sales are final. Secret Lair says "all purchases are final at the time of sale." EU and UK buyers have a 14-day withdrawal right.
  • Address changes only work before the order is charged.

If you're holding a July 2027 order, plan on holding it to delivery.

Flip, hold or pass?

This is our analysis, not a promise.

Flip: Only makes sense for first-wave decks, and only if $20 to $25 after fees is worth your time. Price off sold listings, not asking prices, and don't sell a deck you don't have tracking for yet.

Hold: This is where past Secret Lair Commander decks have paid off. A sealed deck you already own costs nothing to store, and the singles are already worth well above retail on paper. If you're on the July 2027 wave, holding is the default anyway.

Pass: If you didn't order in the window, chasing a first-wave copy at $200 or more only works if you want to play it or plan a long hold.

Vinch's take

Vinch, who covers Magic for us, flagged the deck to our Magic members before launch and compared it to the Hatsune Miku deck, which he said was showing roughly $80 profit after fees at the time. After launch, with copies selling around $200, his view was that $200 is too low to sell at. His general approach: he buys most Secret Lairs and puts away the ones that aren't great right away, rather than dumping them. That's his opinion, not a recommendation.
