If Walmart canceled your Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition pre-order, check your inbox. Shoppers are reporting two kinds of apology emails: one with a $519 Walmart eGift card, and one with a 48-hour reservation to check out the console again. Our team confirmed in the private lowkey flips channel that the gift card is legit, and said the choice is either to order again or take the gift card.
What the Walmart emails say
We looked at two emails that shoppers shared with us, shown below. We have not been able to see Walmart's own systems, so this is what the emails themselves say.
Email 1: the eGift card
- Walmart says it canceled the Nintendo Switch 2 Legend of Zelda pre-order and that this "was our mistake."
- It says it is sending a Walmart eGift card for $519.00.
- The card arrives by email within 10 business days.
- A note says that if the total is over $500, you receive multiple eGift cards.
Email 2: the reservation
- Walmart says the pre-order was canceled in error.
- The console has already been added back to your cart as an item named "Exclusive Reservation."
- You can reclaim the reservation for 48 hours.
- There is a quantity limit of one per customer.
The two emails look like different versions. We don't know how Walmart decides who gets which, and the team's read is that you can pick one or the other, not both. Check the email you actually received.
How much is the Zelda 40th Switch 2? Price and resale value
- Retail price: the Nintendo Store lists the console at $519.99. Walmart's gift card email says $519.00. Our team has described retail as about $520.
- Resale value: in a market watch on October 22, our team's read of eBay sold listings was $680+ for the console. That is the team's estimate from that date, not a price we re-checked, and not a promise. eBay results wouldn't load for us today. More supply (restocks, reservations, in-store stock on November 5 per the team) can push prices down.

Gift card or rebuy: which makes sense?
This is our read of the numbers, not advice for your situation:
- Take the gift card if you wanted the console mainly at retail and don't want to wait. $519 of Walmart credit covers a lot, though it only works at Walmart and you don't get a console.
- Reclaim the reservation if you wanted the console itself, or if you planned to resell and think the market holds. At $519.99 retail against a team-reported $680+ market, there was room on paper, but fees, shipping, tax and a growing supply all eat into that.
- Move fast on the reservation. It expires in 48 hours.
We did not confirm Walmart's own cancellation and return rules for this item, so read them before you reserve. Our team did say it's worth checking your email even if you thought you were out.
