Zelda 40th Switch 2 Release Day: Restocks & Resale

· 4 min read · By the Friends & Family team

The Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 launched today at $519.99, and our team expected restocks on release day. Here's what they told members, what the return rules actually allow, and where we couldn't confirm things.

What's worth a look today? The Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition, which our team called out as release day on October 29. We already covered the specs and sold-price check in our Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 resale breakdown. This post is the other half: what our team told members in the private lowkey flips channel this week, and what Nintendo's own pages say about returns.

What the team said about release day

Our team posted a market watch on October 22 and a links post on October 28. The main points:

  • Restocks expected. The team said they expected more stock on release day, since people cancel pre-orders. They posted direct links for the console, the Pro Controller and the carrying case across Nintendo, Amazon, Target, Best Buy, GameStop and Walmart.
  • In-store stock. The team said Best Buy would have in-store stock on November 5. They said GameStop stores would only get a few consoles and controllers each (about five consoles or so) and weren't worth camping for.
  • Check prices often. They warned that market prices would fluctuate during the week.

Members have also been sharing photos of consoles they picked up in our private #success channel.

Retail vs. the team's market read

What the team posted on October 22, as their read of eBay sold listings at that time (not a promise, and not a figure we've re-checked today):

Item Retail (per our team) Market (per our team)
Console $520 $680+
Pro Controller $100 $155+
Pro Controller with stand (Nintendo exclusive) $110 $200+
Carrying case $40 $60+

On Nintendo's own Store listing, we confirmed the console's price in the page data as $519.99. The product page also showed a message that more inventory is on the way, which means it wasn't purchasable when we looked. eBay results wouldn't load for us today, so we haven't confirmed current sold prices ourselves.

The team's take: profit is there, but it's modest

The team's October 22 words: prices were profitable, but maybe not profitable enough for some. They noted that with an eBay basic store, the console's final value fee is 7.35%, which they estimated leaves roughly $60 to $70 of profit per console, depending on your tax rate. Your own fees, shipping and sales tax will change that.

Long term, the team said they like these, and that they plan to put some away. Their reasoning: this is a big anniversary console built around one of the most loved games in the series, and the Switch 2 is early in its life cycle. They also said prices could push higher closer to the holidays, depending on how much release-day stock there is. That's an opinion, and a restock wave could just as easily push prices down. Our verdict is hold if you can wait, pass if you'd pay above retail to get one.

Can you cancel or return it?

This is where to be careful. The team's note was that you can let an order ship and return it within the window if you don't like how the market ends up. Here is what Nintendo's Store policy actually says for orders placed directly with Nintendo:

  • You have 30 days after delivery to return or exchange.
  • Nintendo says it will not accept returns of items that have been opened, unsealed, or had tags removed, or items not in original condition.
  • Shipping is not refunded unless the item was damaged, defective or not what you ordered, and Nintendo reserves the right to limit or decline refunds or exchanges.

So a return only works if you keep the console sealed. If you open it, expect to keep it. We did not verify the cancellation and return rules for the other retailers (Amazon, Target, Best Buy, GameStop, Walmart), and each has its own, so check them before you order.
