Zelda Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Foil Cover: Price & Resale

· 4 min read · By the Friends & Family team

The Ocarina of Time remake launches November 5 on Switch 2, and the first print of the physical game ships with a textured foil cover that retailers say is limited. Foil copies are already selling above retail.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. The physical game lists at $69.99, and the first print run has a textured foil cover that is "while supplies last"; later copies get the standard cover. Nintendo has not published a print run, so there is no official number for how rare the foil cover is. Our releases page shows foil-cover pre-orders selling on eBay for an average of $94 across 5 sales as of October 31.

How much is Ocarina of Time on Switch 2?

  • Physical, list price: $69.99. This is the standard US price for the physical game, per Nintendo Wire and 9to5Toys coverage of the pre-orders.
  • Physical at Amazon and Walmart: $59.99. Both retailers ran $10 off pre-orders, according to Nintendo Wire, and Nintendo Wire reports both were also offering the foil cover.
  • GameStop and Target: GameStop lists the game at $69.99 and Target is listed at the higher price. Our team's post in Discord on October 30 noted these two as the pricier options.
  • Digital: $59.99 on the Nintendo eShop listing. The digital version has no foil cover, because there is no box.

Ocarina of Time release date and the foil cover

Nintendo lists November 5, 2026 as the release date, and the game is Switch 2 only. It is not coming to the original Switch. The foil cover is a limited first-release cover: once the first print is gone, copies ship with the normal art. One outlet reported a November 4 cutoff for the foil stock, but we could not confirm that date, so treat it as unconfirmed.

Late on October 30 our team flagged that the foil copies had sold out at Amazon and were still turning up at Walmart. Retailers can restock or cancel pre-orders, so a sold-out label is not proof the cover is gone.

What it sells for on eBay

Checked October 31, 2026, sold listings for the foil-cover edition, pre-release:

  • Foil cover, sealed pre-order: about $94 average across 5 sales, against $59.99 to $69.99 retail.
  • Standard cover: not separated yet, since it does not exist until the foil run ends. We will add it after launch.

Five sales is a thin sample, and pre-release sales are for items that have not shipped. Nothing here is a promise.

The math

Take a $59.99 pre-order and a $94 sale. After a typical 13% marketplace fee and about $5 shipping, you keep around $77, so roughly $17 profit per copy before tax. At $69.99 that falls to about $7. Our reseller fees guide has the formula.

Why this matters for resale

  • Big franchise, big game. Ocarina of Time is one of the best-known Zelda games, and a Switch 2 remake keeps the franchise in the news after the Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 launched on October 29.
  • A real scarcity hook. The foil cover is a stated limit, which is what drives collector premiums on first prints.
  • Low cash outlay. At $60 to $70 a copy, this is cheap compared with a console.

Risks and the case against

  • Unknown print run. If the foil first print is large, the premium disappears by launch week. Nintendo has given no number.
  • Thin margin. A $10 to $30 gap leaves little after fees, shipping and tax.
  • Cancellations. Retailer pre-order cancellations have been heavy recently, so a pre-order is not guaranteed stock.
  • Sold-out signals can mislead. Retailers restock, and a pre-order sold out today may not stay that way.
  • Marketplace rules. Selling a pre-order you do not yet hold can break them.

Flip, hold or pass? Our take

This is analysis, not a promise.

  • Flip: If you hold a confirmed order at $59.99 and foil-cover sold prices stay above $85 after launch.
  • Hold: If you are a Zelda collector. A sealed foil first print is the version people look for later.
  • Pass: If you would pay full price plus an eBay premium. The gap is too small once fees come out.
